Help! Ok I have read numerous threads (did a search on code 412) but im still confused as to why my car wont start. I have a 98-3.4L V8. Car was running great yesterday, this morning wouldnt start. Turns over but no start. I was in a hurry to get to work but I did pull code 412 before I borrowed a neighbors car. I see that 412 stated here is Idle speed not controlling idle properly idle to low but my book says its secondary air injection switch valve A current malfunction (maybe its the same thing, I dont know) What I do know that its the only code I get and that the car wont start and im desparate as I need this car to get to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fixed it last night it was the crank sensor which I found by reading these forums. Thanks all, it was $14.99 at Advanced Auto Parts. Still not sure why im still getting code 0412. Car runs fine.

I will check the thermactor pump fuse under the hood tonight. Someone also said something about the relay under the pump....

You should have tried just reseating the connector on the crank sensor first to see if it would start. I think I had an issue like that. Removed the crank sensor, then put it back in, cleaned it and the connector, and car has been fine since.

Fuse for the pump was blown I replaced it and within 2 seconds it blew again. Took the battery out and saw the air pump down below under a bracket. Can anyone tell me exactly where the SSR is for the pump? What are the relays in the black square box right beside the battery? Still getting code 0412 even though the car runs okay, just tired of seeing the CEL on.

The relay is on the bottom of the pump.

Great place to put it, yes? Would a bad relay cause the fuse to blow? I guess I should hard wire the pump to the battery to see if it runs, im thinking the pump is locked up. Do I really need to replace this pump? Its pretty expensive and like I said the car runs fine without the thing. If it wasnt for the damn CEL, I would ignore it.

It's a solid state relay so if it fails it fails closed or in this case maybe shorted. If you are any good at wiring I would put in a regular type relay. Probably do this for under $20.
