Well just got my 91 moving forward (literally thats the only way it moves if you check my thread in engine forum). And the power steering also doesn't work. Doesn't make the patented Ford whining, doesn't make any noises at all, all looks normal, fluid in the resivor, just nothing. The motor the car came out of had a bad PS rack, but otherwise was fine, maybe the PS pump is shot? Any help would be great, thanks.

it think that it would be crying if it was having a hard time try to do it's job. i suspect that it could be more or less your VSS. it wouldnt make it super hard to turn the wheel, but maybe.

It doesn't even feel like it's trying to do it's job, just feels like absolutely no power steering, not like it has a leak, like maybe the pump isn't working.

Check and see if the fluid in the PS reservoir is circulating. If not, the pump is dead. If so, either their is a plumbing problem or the rack is dead.

Well, last time I parked the car the rack worked fine (that was 2 years ago), I don't know if time could have any effects on it, wouldn't think so. And when the motor was in the previous car, like I said the rack was on the way out, but it appeared to be a working pump.

The first post I was looking at the car, the 2nd I came and posted before leaving for my GF's grad party, and the third was at 1am (i can't see nothing in the dark). So I did it as soon as I could, those other posts were giving info that could maybe help people give ideas... anyways

There is no circulation, so I'd assume the pumps dead, I don't know much about the VSS, but would assume that wouldn't cause no circulation.

Ummm.... a car that sits for 2 years could definitely have problems. Was the power steering pump and all associated lines hooked up this entire 2 years, or was it out most of the time? I would check the reservoir while the car is running and see if the fluid is circulating. If not, you have a bad pump or a plugged line (you never know what got in there (or how)). If it is circulating, your rack is most likely bad.

The VSS has nothing to do with the power steering in a car without VAPS. Try taking the return line off of the pump and starting it up just to make sure. If nothing comes out, than it is most definitely the pump.
