I was waiting to turn left in the middle of the intersection, the light turned red so I went to clear the intersection... But the Explorer across the way didn't think a red light was enough reason to stop, they floored it & hit the rear end of my car... Since I am the younger driver the police said I must have been mistaken & the light was still yellow, I get the ticket & the car gets junked... :rainshit: ... :finger: ... so much for the SHO

Ya, that sucks!

You don't have to junk it. Looks easily repairable?

I know how you feel though, with the police and that crap. It happened to me where this lady was going at least 35-40 in a 25 and I thought I could get across this little intersection before she came (at the time.. I bet she was at least 150-200 feet away) and she hit my back end.

Not sure what she was doing, but I got the ticket somehow, it was rediculous. I swear some Police are just total morons and don't know how to recreate a situation or do their job right, but no, they just take the easy way out.

It is NOT easily repairable. The rear quarter is part of the unibody and is not easily fixed. If the rear suspension is out of whack, forget it.

To the OP: you can always fight the ticket in court. Just because you got the ticket doesn't mean you're guilty.

Well, I will buy your chromies and the SHO lettering off of the right rear bumper. What else do you think you can get rid of? Cams welded? Sell the motor. Part it baby!

Since I paid so little for the car I didn't have comp & collision, so no check from insurance. My insurace said they are going to take a look at it anyways since I said the light was red & are going to try to get the other company to cover either part of the repair cost or part of the cost to total it out, but I'm not holding my breath.

The tire rubs on the inner fender when I turn, so I'm betting the suspension is messed up, if he hadn't floored it to try to run the light he probably would have only taking off the bumper & I could have gotten it fixed easily. Or he could have not tride to run a red light at all & saved me the hassle.

I don't have any other wheels for it so they'll go with the car to the junk yard most likely.

Take the panels out of the trunk on that side and pound out the dent with a rubber mallet. Since the bumper cover is flexible, couldn't it be popped out also. Unless the car is actually bent, it should be okay right?

I hate it that the person ran into you, the best thing is that you didn't get hurt. Things can be replaced but people can't.

I was thinking about pulling the subframe off a normal Taurus, swaping some of the parts that are different then pounding out the back end so it's drivable.... but the body is crumpled into the C pillar, so I don't think it's straight, or 100% fixable at this point....

I don't think that will work. He needs basically the rear passenger side grafted in. I mean look how far the panel is pushed in compared to the outside of the tire.

al pieces of the unibody are replaceable. and the rear 1/4 is one of the "lesser" pieces of the unibody. it can be on there just about any which way and still function flawlessly

any competant body shop wouldnt bat an eye at the idea of swapping a 1/4 panel and putting the frame back where it belongs

this car is only totaled from the vehical value vs repair cost standpoint, not from a repairablity standpoint

the only vehicals that are totaled based on a repairability standpoint are ones where the passanger cabin is twisted / racked

Yes, I know; I also know that a V8 SHO with that kind of damage is totalled - happened to Dan Carman's SHO earlier this year with almost the exact same damage.

Totaled too at least in Illinois is defined as 50% cost of repair vs.the value of the car. I would buy it back and get a salvage title if you like the car.

The body isn't horrible, it is repairable, but it will cost about the same as the value of the car.... Not to mention the rear suspension is screwed up & rubs on the inner fender whenever I turn.
