I've had this happen a few times. I'll get in the car when it's really cold (<15f or so) and it says no key detected. But I put it in gear and the message goes away and it lets me drive.

Do you think this is just from the fob being cold, the battery in the fob starting to die or a combination of both? Just seemed weird that it goes away when put in gear, and that it even starts with no key detected.

I had the same thing happen about a week ago. It's was 20 outside I remote started it got it and got ready to go and no key detected but everything was fine when I put it in drive. The my touch in the SHO is a little quirky. I never had any issues with the my touch in my ST Focus. Sometimes after hanging up a phone call it defaults to the settings page for some reason??? Of course user error can never be ruled out lol.

The first thing I'd likely do is replace the fob battery and see if that takes care of it. If not, the next thing I'd suspect is the car battery. Druseph, with your car being a 2011, depending on when the car was built, you could be about due for your second new battery by now. Modern cars tend to only get about 3 years out of battery before the electrical systems start to do strange things due to aging batteries.

I had this exact issue happen about a month after getting my car. I called the dealer, they said start with replacing the fob battery. Did that - and it works perfect now...has not happened since. AND, I noticed the little proximity thing (lock/unlock) on the front door handles... they started working immediately and fast after replacing the fob battery. So I think the battery was just on the brink. I am guessing with all the technology...the fob will probably die much more often... as it has the proximity sensor and such.

the Lincolns will give you a warning "replace fob battery soon" or something like that, and I thought the Fords did too, but maybe not...

there is a location in the console to place the fob when you get the "no fob detected" message so that you can start the car. the exact location is in the manual and is a little different on each model, so I don't know exactly where it is for the SHO.
