From the time I first saw this newly unveiled Taurus, I always pictured myself stepping into a shimmering 'Gun-Metal Gray' one. Come Ford's pre-release Taurus website, and I see they've decided to make this one of the few vehicles in the world NOT available in any Gray...What the ...?!..This makes no sense to me. Especially when Ford declared their mission was to make this Taurus an Affordable "premium" car, with the Audi A6 as their target. All the the Germans use some of the most beautiful mid-gray metalics around. You can't get any classier...Taking into account that Ford has long used some very tasty Grays in their line-ups, does anybody else feel like-wise?

Yeah, I actually thought about this a few days ago.

I think a Gun-Metal or even a Sterling Gray would be a great color for the Taurus and even the SHO specifically. The Taurus has only been out for 3-4 months, so, there's still a chance for a few extra colors to be brought in production..

This picture is part of what I've been using as my desktop wallpaper for about six months. The SHO is actually red...Unfortunately, my skills aren't to where I can put back in any reflected surrounding color, like the sky, etc. But it gives me a reasonable idea of how I really would like it.Maybe not as dark. 0g1

I fully agree with the Sterling Gray...I actually E-mailed Ford direct on their Taurus site, a couple of months before it went into production. But the return said they had "no plans to add new colors in the near future."..Oh, well.

Yes indeedy do, that was a fine job. I don't know how much work is involved in doing that, but if it's not too much of a hassle, could you do one in this color?

Actually, the thing is that(as for the picture of the car, itself) all I did was isolate the 'Red' of the paint and filtered out all the color. I didn't 'add' color...That's were the skills really come in.Other-wise I would've put the reflected colors in the Gray. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and if I can't make it look right, I ain't showin' it to nobody.

eh, with enough money they'll make one for you in any color. Go talk to a salesmen about it and I bet they can get you a price for a custom one off gunmetal sho;)

So taking your SHO to the body shop and dropping 5,000 bucks on a quality paint job is ok but having Ford do it and tack it onto the MSRP is not?

$7,000!!!!...If I'm gonna drive around in a $50,000 plus Taurus, it'll be 'cause I put in the best brakes in the world, etc. NOT because of a paint-job!...Besides,the original point of this thread was that there should be a gray in the line.I would be perfectly happy with Ford's traditional Sterling Gray. It would look like a million bucks on this car.

The Steel Blue is a great color and should make most "grey" car people happy, see it in person. I like the Cinnamon color as the only almost "brown" color for the car for now.

Back in '94 I asked our contact at the Atlanta plant if I could get one painted in the gold color that was available on the standard Taurus. the color is right there on the paint gun, and all I thought it would take would be a click on the computer system, but my contact said there was NO way to do it, no amount of money (well, I guess if I offered six or seven figures, maybe, but no reasonable amount of money) would get it done. So, I doubt that they will do a one-off custom paint job for anything less than LOTS of money. Now fleet cars are a different thing, but you want to buy 1000 cars just to get one in a custom color?

While I personally like the "Old man blue" (Thanks to PonySHO),it's called 'Steel Blue' for a reason....It's not Gray.

When we bought our 2003 Silverado, we wanted a gold color, I love gold (and most "brown" tones like you love grey) but we needed and wanted a truck then, and took the Titanium color anyway, and love the truck.

Steel blue could be considered a shade of grey as well as a shade of blue, but hey, I will support your desire to stick to your color guns. but if you want a new SHO, you may have to wait a long time, unless you can get some inside info on a true "grey" color coming out soon.

I would rather have gold or a true brown than cinnamon, but if I had to have a new SHO, I would have to settle for that, or...wait, maybe forever.

Steel Blue can not be considered a shade of 'gray', as the gray scale is defined by the absence of any color hue.Such as blue, green, etc. It goes from pure white at one end to pure black on the other....As for waiting forever...If you look at my wallpaper paste-up that I made (post #3),you'll see a strip section of a 'Atlantis Green' Fusion.(There were no pictures of a SHO in that color, at the time)...That's the existing color I've 'settled' on...Still,..
