Where is the sensor that turns on fans located? It's not beside the thermostat as google search forums indicate: Larry
No fans running on 95 auto

Sounds like either your blower or blower control module is out. Try doing a search for "blower control module"

Are you talking about the radiator cooling fans?
If you are, try tapping the CCRM box on top of the radiator, but under the plastic cover that has your belt routing picture on it.
The Temperature Sender is supposed to be on the thernostat housing and yes, it is different than the one that feeds information to the BCM.

Went by the Ford garage and found an older mechanic that thinks he remembers the sender being under the fuel rails, under the intake ( WOW!) Plugged in a code reader and both fans came on in reader check out, like the instruction said they should, so the fan motors are running. This all got started when I got trapped by a train for a long period about a week ago, ( outside temp only 70 degrees F ) and it really heated up to point of shutting me down. I had to call AAA to take it home. after a week of digging, and watching blinking code lights, I bought a EEC-1 reader. I don't what happened, but plugging in the reader, got it to start up and run fine. before that, it was just, like trying to start a car out of gas. I still must find why it got so hot, I'm afraid to drive it anywhere now. The sender is not beside the thermostat on a 95, Also, is there a limp mode that shuts the engine down, like new cars? I don't think there is a fail-safe shut down due to temp if that is what you are asking. I could be wrong, but I think it will continue to run until it's cooked

Try the tapping routine on the CCRM. Sometimes the relay gets lazy and it needs a shock to get it moving again.
It sounds like this relay issue is what caused the overheating, so I would tturn my attention to the CCRM. I would swap in another unit (get one from this forum). The cold weather kept this flaw from being noticed up till now.
Put a little penetrating oil on the connector bolt in the meantime.
That is my guess for the solution.
But if that is not it, the engine gets the heat information from the temperature sender and sends it to the PCM; which sends it to the CCRM to turn on the fans. So the next item to concentrate on would be the PCM.

it is far more likely that the ccrm is bad than that the temp sensor is bad, but both are possibilities. also possible, but less likely is the pcm being bad and not commanding the fans to turn on, or a wiring fault in the connector or harness.

do the fans turn on if AC or windshield defrost are selected? the connector on the fans likes to get hot and degrade, check it for a poor connection.
on a side note, when overheating is happening turn the cabin heater on max. 90 degrees and fan on hi can dissipate enough heat to keep damage to a minimum. it will get hot, hope the windows work.

To add to pjtoledo's advice , using MAX AC while setting the desired temp up quite high will turn the radiator fan on full blast if the low speed portion of the CCRM relay is failing
