No codes, still feel a missfire

Ok, so I got the scan tool and ran the scan. Cylinder 7 was misfiring so i got a replacement coil and a back-up.I replaced no.7 and the car ran smoothly until a little bit ago. Im getting no engine light, no codes and I can feel the car missing subtlety and the tachometer is sharply going down about 70 rpm every time there is a miss. I plugged in my scan tool while running in the car and when Im idling at a light or parked; the miss-shudder happens.When Im at highway speed there is no miss firing or tachometer fluctuation.Has this happened before to anyone? Should I carry around spare tools just in case another coil goes?I'm needing some divine intervention from you V8 apostles! Thanks---Alaric

Carry around a metric 1/4" & 3/8" socket set with ratchets.

8, 10, 12, and 14mm combination wrenches

Standard screwdriver

And a pair of pliars, with an extra coil in the trunk. You need to insulate the rear harness if that hasn't been done already. Otherwise, you should be good to go.

you can have a slight miss without throwing a code... the only way to really tell where its coming from is to get a good scan tool with a misfire counter and then you can see which cylinder is missing

I have an Actron Autoscanner plus cp9180. does this have a miss fire counter? Or who would have one? FORD???---Alaric

one question: if it is a bad coil 1-4 towards the firewall, how easy is it to pull the rear intake off? What is the procedure.can i do it with the above described tools?Thanks---Alaric

not sure what that scanned is, but usually misfire counters are on the pretty expensive scanners that are like 1000 bucks and up

as far as the intake, ive never pulled it off myself but am planning to soon, but i saw a write up not long ago

I know when my waterpump was messing with the Crank postition senser I could feel the car missing. You might be int he early stages of a leaky waterpump . A few weeks later the car just shut down at highway speeds or it would not start when shut down for a short time . If you waited 10 or 15 minutes it would start. It just got worse until it became apparent that the culprit was the water pump.

This is a V8, not a V6, it is a coil pack.

Yes you can remove the surge tank with the above listed tools.

After chasing bad coils for a couple of years I finally just bought 4 new coils for the rear. On my car I can get to the rear coils in about 15-20 minutes but there are a few things missing than from stock and I've had a lot of practice......
