Hey everyone. Hope you are all staying warm. My 2010 SHO SYNC system has phone buttons but I can find absolutely nowhere to set up my phone. I find no reference in the menu and pressing the phone buttons does nothing. Am I overlooking something?

You likely have a bad APIM. APIM is the "brains" of the SYNC system.

Use FORScan or a high level scan tool to check for DTCs in the APIM.

Looks like the APIM is located at the rear of the console in 2010. #5

AFAIK, a used replacement, part numbers matching, is plug and play. A new APIM would have to be programmed by a dealer. Here is an example of what you are looking for. A scan tool may be able to get the part number or you'll have to remove the APIM to visually check it.

Near as I can figure, this is the replacement part number. It will not be the part number on the module itself. If it was available from Ford it would probably be $500 or more.

Found this interchange chart. Not saying it's accurate but, may give you an idea where to look for a module. The two that are listed for 2010 Taurus, you can ignore the last letter which designates a revision level.

So from what I am learning there is no APIM in my car. It's the communication module. Is that correct?

The module is called by various names. A scan tool will call it APIM. The service manual calls it APIM.
