No 5th or Reverse

For some reason I cannot shif into reverse or 5th. The intake hose fell off so I stopped in at auto zone and put it back on. I backed into the a spot, put it on, and took off. Now I am on the freeway on my way to work, go to shift to 5th, and its not there. It just goes into 3rd, no matter what I try. Freakin great. I get to work, and am going to back into my spot, and it shifts into 4th instead of reverse. I cannot get it into either gear. It just goes into the one next to it. And there is a lot of play when in 3rd and 4th in the shifter. Any ideas? I have yet to crawl under it and check out the linkage because I am at work...

Cable or rod shifter?

Your problem is related to your cable shifter. I would invest in a rod shifter if i were you. If you don't want to spend all the $ on new cables or a rod shifter i could hook you up with the cables from my 89 parts car. LMK and good luck.

Its a cable shift...If I cannot find a rod shifter, LMK how much you want for your cable set-up Chris.

You need to get under there and look. It could be a bracket missing a bolt or something like that.

Yup, get down there and inspect connection points. I lost 1st, 2nd, and reverse....the ball joint that connects to the input selector shaft had slipped off. Simply poped it back on and havent had a problem sense...
