I've owned a tuned Audi S4 and now a tuned 2014 SHO but I've never been to the track, neither the 1/4 drag nor actual track. I just found out there's a raceway with both only 50 mins away from me! I was reading the NHRA guidelines for helmet usage and here's what I found out:

For all 10.00 to 13.99 closed bodied cars, either an open face or a full face Snell M2005, M2010, K2005, SA2005, SA2010, SFI31.1/2005, or 41.1/2005 helmet with or without a shield is mandatory. Full face helmet mandatory on all cars 9.99 or quicker. Shield mandatory 7.49 and quicker.

What does everyone recommend for a "CHEAP," helmet that meets these requirements and where to buy one? I don't see myself going to the track that often so I don't want to pay a load for only occasional use.

THANKS!

Amazon.com is a good source. I bought a full face Zamp that meets SA2010 requirements for around $140 but they offer a huge selection.

Thanks that's what I was thinking. What about sizing? Just use your baseball cap size?

Sizing might depend on the brand but you might want to go a size larger than hat size. I originally ordered a Zamp in a size medium because that matched up with my hat size. I couldn't even get it on - it was way too small. I returned it and got an extra large and it fits fine. If you get one that seems a bit large, you can always add some foam padding to snug it up. If you get one too small, there is nothing you can do. If your track is OK with a motorcycle helmet, I am sure most cycle shops have helmets and you could try them on. My track insisted on the SA2005 or SA2010.

I picked up a Bell Attack for $99. They have not had any issues at the track with it.
