Hey Guys,

I currently have an Unleashed tune and Torrie just started selling the HPtuner nGauge. I have been using the SCT X3, but was wondering, provided that Torrie can adjust the tune, would there be any benefit to getting it? Not sure if anyone has any experience with it.

Thanks!

A random tidbit about Ngauge that I learned today...
There are about 4 different gauge layouts you can choose from (LED, Quad, 6 Pack.. etc). That's not the part I learned. What I learned is what is logged when you start a log is not only the PIDs you have favorited but also any PID that is on any of those gauge layouts. Whether you are on the gauge layout or not. This is helpful because Ngauge limited how many PIDs can be favorited. So if you need to add a PID but you have run out of favorites, then add that PID to one of the gauge layouts.

From what I have seen in logs, the ngauge only captures data 25 times per second vs 250 times per second for a livewire. I think the x4 is around 100 per second if I remember correctly. I don't think that affects tuning at all, just a useless piece of information I figured I'd pass along.

It would be interesting to have a complete breakdown of tuning devices and software. I use the mpvi2 and datalogging speed varies based on what pids I choose. Some are way faster than others. I can only guess they send different amounts of data.

Yeah, I've got the Livewire TS+ but I also would love to see some sort of chart comparing certain attributes between not just the different SCT devices (I saw they have a new 'Vision' available that looks alot like the TS+, what's that all about?) but comparing the HPTuner devices and maybe even the new Cobb stuff (they currently don't support our platform, but have some support for Raptor and Focus, support might be coming soon though).

EDIT: Just read up on the Vision a bit, seems to be just a monitor device with custom gauge setups, no tuning or loading available. Not interesting to me as a small tablet and the Torque Pro app does this just fine, IMHO.

The only thing I liked about the livewire was the big screen. It seems sct is lagging behind on anything newer than 2017ish. Im interested to see any new tech they come out with but unless they change the way they do software ill probably never go back.

The ngauge is probably the best looking when installed. It looks almost factory. It would be sweet if ford allowed us to use sync to display gauges.

Yeah, when I was getting away from that silly LMS tuning device, I was doing research and seemed the support for Ford vehicles and widest available tuners was with an SCT device at the time. I've been hearing HPTuners are getting more support for Ford lately. I really wish there was a way to compare devices so that I can see the hard data on what device can do what and what the limitations are with each. I've got no vested interest in any particular device, but the Livewire does what I need currently. I'd be happy to switch to something else if there was some way to see how switching would benefit me.

the nGauge logs around 35/second, where the X4 logs around 60.

Not sure if the Livewire logs more, I'd have to dig up a log to see.

I would speak to Torrie more in depth about his comfort level with HPTuners before investing too heavily in the nGauge. While I LOVE my nGauge, it's so easy to use and much faster than SCT, it is NOT a troubleshooting device and the datalogging functionality is very limited to other tuning devices.

We are still working with HPTuners to expand support for the ecoboost platform, and as new features are added I find myself having to log with the MVPI2 to get the specific data we need for tune modification.

Once he has the tunes near perfect, the nGauge will be great for plug n play and minor corrections, it's just not a viable candidate for tuning evolution.

Do you know any of the datalogging specs of the mpvi2 vs the ngauge?

Definitely not 35 on ngauge, both attachments are from 2 different ngauge devices, two different cars. Looks a lot like 25 to me, at absolute best 26, but definitely not 35.

Just double checked other logs, x4 is 70 per second and livewire is 180.

my logs are maxed for available parameters and have always had 35. I just checked multiple logs over the last 6 months of use...

as far as parameters? sure do.

This compares our MVPI2 datalog list, to our SCT datalog list, and then the nGauge options.

Nice! I was meaning as far as spec wise like number of items you can log and speed, etc... i normally just use a similar configuration as to what I ran with SCT. I've never seen anyone post about datalogging resolutions or anything like that.

Ah yea that I've never really catalogged.

nGauge you can log 21 at a time, plus the 4 on the screen if something different from what you have star selected

SCT X4 can log 30ish

SCT device as a passthru to the laptop you can log 40

MPVI2 you can log ideally as many as you want. I've done up to 60 at once with good resolution but could do more if I wanted to.

log from last Saturday has 34/sec.

So we agree that it definitely isn't 35. LOL!

Each example I posted were from different tuning companies. Is there any parameter adjustable to tuning companies to change data resolution speeds? I doubt I could convince either one of them to upgrade firmware. I'll take my 170 per minute, I wouldn't do any updates on mine unless I absolutely had to.

I've never used the ngauge but I can say once you go mpvi2, you never go back to sct. Unless they have major things planned, they got nothing for me.

Mine bounces between 34 and 36 readings per second. I averaged lol.

The firmware on the nGauge is extremely stable, and new features are added quite regularly. I recently submitted module changes to E-motion that should be on the next update that will allow for the nGauge to access all the change features from ForScan. We have it set up for the Explorer Sport already, it's pretty neat.
