I like this guy. thumb I beleive the automatics need tune ups every 100k right? (Correct me if im wrong) So i think your ok now. As for Mods, one thing every atx should have is a ted b. chip and a shift kit. Those are from what ive seen the best 2 mods an atx can have.

Right now you're nearing the 60k maintanence. On an ATX, it is much easier because they are built to go 100k on the front side.

The list is:

New spark plugs
New plug wires (opt)
Valve Lash adjustment (important)
Valve Cover Gaskets (replaced when doing valve lash)
Intake Manifold Gaskets (intake removed to do plugs/wires and Valve lash)
Clean the MAF (mass air sensor)
Replace the TPS (throttle position sensor)
Replace the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor)
Replace the Oxygen Sensors (2 req'd)
Replace the Thermostat (192/195 degree for the ATX)

And then enjoy!

Its a 1993 right? I would also upgrade to the D4u1 computer out of a 94 or a 95 ATX, check out www.midwestSHO.com . I would also suggest the Ted B LPM.

You might want to change your tranny fluid as well to a synthetic fluid.

A couple of cheap and fun mods would be to remove your silencer cone in the intake fenderwell and the fog light modification

Check out here and www.shotimes.com for any more info you might need.

Goodluck thumb and welcome

Thanx for the info guys. Just took the intake silencer cone out and about to take out for a test drive. burnout

AutobahnSHO1130 what synthetic transmission fluid would be best?

Also i'm watchin a ted b chip on ebay and was wondering if i have to do the 94-95 computer upgrade? If so where would be the least expensive place to get it from?

FOR SHO: where can i find the shift kit?

Also the shoshop 80mm maf is $300. The ProM one is 425, is the ProM one really worth it or is the one on the shop page better?

Redline Transaxle fluid

I would upgrade the computer before I did anything. The 1993 ATX computer is Notoriously the weakest link in the car, if you don't do it now, you will run into problems in the future. I believe mikey @ www.midwestSHO.com sells the upgraded computer or it would be easy enough to post a WTB in the Want TO Buy section here for a code D4u1 Computer. Would Probably even be easy enough to go to a boneyard and find one.

I would would do neither MAF unless you plan on doing other serious upgrades as well. A 75mm Proflow for around $200 is well worth it if thats all you plan on upgrading. :)

Goodluck, let us know if we can help with anything else

Didn't want to say anything, but the H3Z is not the weakest link the '93. If anything is, it's the tranny, not the PCM. The H3Zx is more aggressively programmed than the D4U1 and even contains "firmer" line pressure tables than the D4U1 does, stock. Any of the infamous "problems" associated with the H3Z's should be attributed to the different chipsets used and not the programming.

ftp, save a few bucks and skip replacing the TPS and ECT sensors during your 60k. These are typically not wear items and definitely don't need replacement as early as 60k (maybe at 100k, but even then that's a maybe).

The shift kit in question is actually a **** and calibration upgrade kit made by TransGo and can be had from many places (you can read about it here). Typically, this kit is only installed during a full rebuild since the areas that are modified are better accessed with the tranny out of the car. IMO, if you do have your tranny rebuilt and the TransGo kit installed, I wouldn't have the valve body mods performed. Go with the lubrication and calibration updates only; do not have the firmer springs or other "firming" modifications performed. For more ATX rebuild info, shoot me an e-mail or PM and I'll send some your way.

Last but not least, welcome to the club! thumb

I don't drive an ATX, but everything I've heard is your best bet is to just go ahead and buy another transmission so you have it when it brakes. From what I understand the '93s were the worst, but I'm no expert, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've seen lots of people on here talking about their 3rd tranny with low enough miles that most other cars would still be on their first.

Any Ford ATX sucks, period. To say it's a certain year is just flat out ..........! I have a 93 with 137k and it shifts better than most ATX's I've been in. I haven't had a problem with it and it's still the original. If anything, it's maintnence!

I'd go ahead and change the trans filter and gasket. When you buy the kit, it should come with a bolt and metal deal (forgot what it was), so it can accept the newer design filter (94/95).
