Greetings.

I just "inherited" a 1999 SHO with 95,000 miles. It is in decent shape although there seems to be issues with the power steering and transmission. On a 150 mile trip recently, at approx 100 miles, the trans started blowing/leaking fluid and created quite a large smoke screen.

I plan to sell it "as is" or I'll work on it this spring and summer and then sell it. I hope this forum will be a great resource. Looks like it will be!

Hi Mark.
I always said I'd never own a G3.
Well... I bought a 1996 last September.
It had cam failure at 158,000 miles.
The cams are now welded but I still need to replace the bent valves.
Should be running next week.

Notice gap between cam lobe and shim = not good.
So verify if your cams have been welded.

The Gen 3 I had leaked from the torque converter seal, causing this same issue. When I pulled the trans out to replace it, I noticed some other issues and ended up rebuilding the whole trans. Pulling the trans on one of those is a pretty big project, especially if you plan on doing it in your own garage. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice. I'll probably be pulling the trans this summer and rebuild it myself. I'm a GM guy but I do have a little experience with Ford C4 and C6's.

The original owner had the cams welded, so at least I don't have to to that.

Thanks again for the welcome and l look forward to chatting with every one!!

I am the 2nd owner of a '97 SHO with 258K miles on the clock with no major engine issues, ever. However it has had 3-4 rebuilt trannys. I did the most recent & added a "cooler" at the same time. I ride a MC all the time & so I have only put 10K miles on it since I have had it, 7 years... 9K on the tranny. I need to sell it. Everything works. The radio will need speakers, the fronts are "used". It has a few cosmetic injuries, nothing blatant. I didn't find a thread to "sell" so I'm trying this approach.

I saw that the last "sticky" was posted in 2011. Should I assume that if I add a post & $10.00, to sell my SHO that the moderator will indeed "be there" to approve it? I don't wanna toss a $10 bill into the wind.

Pretty low volume of posts on this site... Seems like I'd be tossing $10 into the wind...
