Well, actually this is my second sho...first one was a 1992 that I sold years ago. I now have a 1995 MTX.
I am sure my problem is a familar one, but I have done some research and am still having trouble.
Background...
I was driving down the highway at around 55mph when the car just died.
I had a friend of mine turn the ignition while I check a plug wire for spark. I had spark. The fuel pump was priming. Just figured it was a sensor. The car would occasionally start and occasionally not. I believe the problem to be the crank position sensor (as I thought that controlled the fuel pulse of the injectors, but I am now thinking I may be wrong).
anyway, I replace the crank position sensor. I was sure to set the gap between it and the vanes on the crank to 0.8mm.
Now when I go to start the car, I still get spark (at least to the plug I was checking) and I can smell fuel.
I never touched the timing belt, so I know it cannot be "mechanically" out of time, but I am now wondering if it may be the DIS?
Also, I noticed that all three of the front bank plug wires were coated in oil indicating that I have an (apparently common) valve cover leak. But I don;t think that this is the problem with the car not starting.
I'd really appreciate some advice from the seasoned veterans of the forum.
I know this question must have come up a million times before, but I honestly searched and couldn't find the info I needed.
Many thanks in advance,
Mike Wiehl
