Hey, may be stupid questions. New to the SHO's, my kid bought a 1993. The motor has a wicked rap and we are going to swap motor's, already have another one. Is it possible to pull the motor from the top or do you have to drop the subframe? Any pointer's would be appreciated, swapped motor's before but always V8 rear wheel drives.

Take it out the top unless the suspension needs to be rebuilt, too.

Remove front accessories and take the trans with it. If you've removed engines before, you'll be fine.

Biggest obstacle to taking it out the top is the brake lines. I usually employ a "twist while lifting" method to bring the trans as far forward as possible. Having the power steering pully out of the way is essential.

Getting it out would be easier if you took it out the bottom (not much, mind you)...but then you'd have lots of stuff to put back together that makes it a net loss using that method unless the suspension needs help, anyway.

Not quite sure on the suspension, has been sitting a couple of months. He picked it up for short money as a project car. So we gonna start with getting the motor squared away, then rebuild the one we take out.

Thanks. South Shore, Brockton area. No of any good places to find parts around here, need some interior parts.

Like Eric said, post in the Wanted To Buy section of the classifieds and you should get some messages from people with the parts you need. Look through other people's parts ads too.

If you only want to look locally, start searching junkyards. A lot of the older SHOs ended up in the Northeast, so the yards around here usually have some to pick over. You can also try contacting Kirk at NESHO, he has a lot of parts stocked at his shop. Phone is generally the best way to get a hold of him.

If you have another motor going in I would change the rod bearings while it's out and easy to do along with the front and rear main seals.

You didn't say if its atx or mtx, but the atx has a bolt between the engine and trans that is under the rear head in a place that you would swear is impossible to have a bolt until you realize its there and you must remove it to get engine separated from trans.

Also, on the atx, the right end of the trans output housing has a couple bolts connecting to the block - you need those out too or the engine won't come off.....

Good luck and welcome!
