I am shopping for a Gen 2 SHO, I live in DC and work in Va. I will likely make a decision by the end of next week. One car is in NC, an 93 ATX for $1000 with some minor issues to fix. The other is a 92 MTX for 1550 that needs a starter and battery. I prefer the MTX, but the ATX seems to be in better condition. Any suggestions on local machanics or advice?

I work in Reston, it's about 20-30 mile daily commute from were I live.

I've been looking for a SHO for almost a month, although I've wanted one since my second car which was a 92 GL. I have a modest budget initially but as long as the car runs good I can work with any minor issues.

Thanks for the contact, Drew, I will definitely do so.

Hey welcome aboard, good luck with the search! If you're ever down in the Richmond area I'd love to help out too.

A 92 MTX was just listed on local craigslist. I have a verbal with a lady in NC on her Red 93 ATX for $1000 though but I would prefer the manual trans. Both cars have realitively low miles at 113K, the ATX has a new Trans and only has a small dent. The MTX costs slightly more, and is a DD, but has a small tear in the exhaust. I will make a decision this week.

I'm still in the mix for a SHO, I just picked up a 97 GL from the auction that I may either keep for awhile or use for trade in. I am looking at another 94 ATX with just over 100K on the engine and the same MTX 92 from my last post with a slightly reduced price. The issue for me is whether to keep the GL as a DD, although it needs some work done.

Well honestly, the sho can be pretty reliable. I would go with the mtx and bring it to us to have a look over so you know if you will need a DD or not. If the car is in good shape then you could just sell the gl afterward.

I found a seller from Philly selling a 94 ATX for $800. It need cat converters installed and gaskets for the sunroof which leaks. The seller also installed an engine from his 93 SHO which had 138 K on it. Other than that it may have some minor or maintanence issues. Speaking to my dad about he is skeptical about it but it sounds to me to be a good deal if it can pass emissions with the cats are installed. What do you think?

its hard to give any guidance when i dont know that much about the car. Is the body straight? interior? Does everything work? needs new brakes or tires?

These things can turn a 800 car into a 2k car.

As far as the exhaust end we could always weld in 2 converters. But Drew is right, those 'little' things can add up quick. The important thing is finding out as much info as possible. I would like to know which 92 MTX on craigslist you were talking about? Got a link?
