I've been shopping new and used SHOs for several months ......

A few weeks ago I finally picked up an Ingot Silver 2015 SHO with the PP and 401a (do they even build 'em without 401a ?) , had about 22.5k n the ododmeter and like a new set of Michelin Pilot A/S 3

I do wish I had found one with the multi-contour seats also but seemed rare with the PP.

So far I'm loving the car !! I haven't had something FUN to drive in about a dozen years :D
I've always liked "sleepers". One of my first cars was a 1999 SVT Contour.

I was very interested in the PP for the extra cooling (PTU, trans, oil) as well as the improved brakes.

A good friend of mine picked up a used non PP 2013 SHO last year (he sold me on the car) and driving the two cars back to back is interesting.

I have been a little surprised on the MPG hit with the 3.17 final drive ( 18.5mpg so far but hard to keep my foot of the gas pedal :) ) and the springs/shocks are definitely on the firm side around town.

My friends 2013 avg is a little over 21 mpg .

Will a tune help/hurt MPGs ??

Congrats on the new SHO!!!! And so the addiction starts to take hold..

None... It will help exactly the amount of none... If it does (which it wont) it will be completely negated by how much MORE your foot is into the gas...

On a serious note not many tuners mess with part throttle except LMS... So I would venture to say if you drive it like a normal old man you won't see much change...

Congrats & welcome, cnatra. Could just be the fuel. Dealers are not exactly known for putting in 93 fuel in the tank. Your friend could be running 93 and a good one at that. The mpg really shouldn't take much of a hit if the cars are otherwise similar in condition.

I was always of the opinion the gas mileage claim on a tune was false. Then I took a 1500 mile round trip to Michigan with my car. On the same 500 mile stretch I ran the car with an Unleashed tune and stock tune. I don't remember the exact mileage but the tune was about 31 mpgs and the stock tune was around 27 mpgs. Again, I don't remember the exact numbers but it was enough where there was a noticeable increase with the tune. This was all 100% interstate driving at the speed limit. I have yet to see any mileage increase in normal driving.

I guess I didn't expect a tune to help MPGs much but I'd prefer it doesn't get any worse for day to day driving.

Any 89octane tunes out there ?

Unleashed tune maybe ??

The OEM tune is rather sloppy with fuel, i.e., it is biased towards a rich mix. Aftermarket tunes are able to take advantage of this slack while "toning up" a bunch of other performance parameters. Literally more bang for the same bucks. If you compare apples to apples, i.e. don't alter your driving style, you should see results for sure. You should also get into the throttle some of the time to help keep the carbon commandos at bay.
