Hello SHO forum!

I have a 2013 non-PP SHO that needs a few mods. What I am looking for is the tried and true ones and not the BS ones. Not interested in waking the neighbors with my mufflers or highway drone. Not interested in a drag only car either. Just better performance than stock. My area has 93 octane, so a good tune is in order.

Looking around the forum I see what appears to be current best. Please correct me if I have this wrong, in any way.

Livernois Tune
MDesign Cold Air
Spark Plug gap to .30
Thermostat -?

So I have read quite a bit about the 160 degree thermostat. Most say it is to cold for contemporary vehicles. However, it appears the Livernois is saying it is needed. What about a 170 degree? Seems like a better compromise - opinions?

Next mod would be downpipe (with cats)

Have I missed anything?

Thanks

Welcome to the community, congrats on your '13 SHO! What color did you pick?

Established powergainers here:

Tune, and to accompany that, plugs & TStat (either 170 or 160, might be tuner dependent though)
Downpipes (and cutouts if you want to max out gains) - going catted would be maybe a cost of 5 hp compared to catless
CAI - POSSIBLE gains with Airaid (if sealed properly to hood), and MDesign (does have dyno backup, really cool-looking to boot)

For suspension/handling, get the right tires, and think about H&R Springs (Megan coilovers coming very soon - in test-fitting phase).

HTH.

EDIT: Forgot all about the 3-bar MAP (great value add for tuning), does need to be removed if you have to return to stock tune for service.

Welcome Grapeman! I put on Magnaflow mufflers only and they add a nice low rumble but are not obnoxious and don't drone. In case you want to reconsider that mod. The 93 LMS tune is great and will wake up the car. Under $800 for both. You can just re-gap your current plugs if there arent too many miles and the thermostat is not necessary in my opinion. (I left mine stock and its been fine)

Good luck and enjoy the car!

Thanks for the feedback.

I am currently debating on CAI. Like the MDesign but not the price. Thinking about an Airaid with a Lexan cover...

Anyone know of a AWD dyno in NC?

I think it's best to either spend extra $150 or for MDesign or keep stock airbox. Too many guys are trying to sell their Airaids now and they are just an expensive door stop.

I'll start modding my SHO this spring after I hit 20k miles. I'm going to do:
- Unleashed 91 tune
- Corsa exhaust
- 170 t-stat
- New plugs
- MDesign CAI

Then I'll take it to the drag strip and see what she does. Later I'll add catted down pipes. That's about it, unless you want to start adding meth. I have no interest in that, at least for now...

I have the MDesign and I love it. Looks awesome and it def is flowing more air into the engine. I'm currently working with Torrie to adjust my tune to compensate.

Kewl! Will you have some before/after numbers to compare?
