My wife and I just picked up our 2014 tuxedo black sho thursday night. Opted for the 401a package, the drivers assist package, sunroof, navi, and the massage seat thing(don't remember name). Also has the mayan leather seating. As of right now there is about 350 miles on the car. We are thrilled with it so far. I just have a couple of easy questions for anyone. I have looked thru the book quite a bit and can't find a definitive answer. What octane fuel is recommended/should I use? And does it come from the factory with synthetic oil? If no, should we switch to synthetic and at what point?

Thanks in advance
Dan

danjr80, Congratulations and welcome to the forum. My car has almost the exact options as yours, except for the myan gray seats and my car is Ruby Red. My car has about 600 miles as of this evening.
The SHO requires 87 ocatane, according to page 172 of my manual. Mine also specifies 5w-30 weight oil, which is surprising because most new Fords use 5w-20 weight oil and I believe that Ford uses a synthetic blend for all of its new cars.
FYI - the seats are called "Multi Contoured.

Welcome and Congratulations!

I believe all of the above is correct. But, I used premium when I was stock and also switched to full synthetic at 500 miles.

5W20 for NA engines, 5W30 for EB engines currently. 2010 MY EB engine was 5W-20.

From the owner's manual for a 2011-2013 SHO:

•Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US)
•Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (US)
•Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada)
•Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (Canada)3

While your SHO will run fine on regular 87 octane fuel, the owners manual goes on to say:

Premium fuel will provide improved performance and is recommended for severe duty usage such as trailer tow.

The part about "improved performance" is why I have never used anything other than premium. I paid more money for the twin turbo engine and I want all the performance that it will provide. I think you will see a bit better fuel economy with premium also since the car's engine management system will allow more advanced ignition timing with higher octane fuel. Just my 2 cents....

Thank you for the info. I came from a 2012 legacy gt. So I automatically put 93 octane it it the other day when I filled it. And I will continue use 93. The multi contoured seats are the best. That with the heat on is pretty much epic :)
