Howdy! I'll be moving to DC in less than 2 weeks. Guess I'ma be a member of this club now, instead of the LSSHOC club. Whats DC like? Fun? I'm coming from the third fattest city in the US so it cant be that bad. Any good local SHO shops around? Also, whats a good part of town to live in thats not more than 20-25 minutes away from the Marriott near the pentagon? Thanks!

We look forward to your arrival! You actually will be coming just in time for a summer meet (late May to early June). DC is pretty fun, especially if you have never visited before. There is so much to see and do. There is a good shop right around the corner from my house here in Gaithersburg, which is about a half hour north of DC is Montogomery County. As far as where to live...that depends on your income to be honest. If you are not pulling in decent coin then it will be hard to find a place that close to that part of DC. You will be living in the northern VA area/Potomac, MD which is not cheap. Getting up north of DC or a little south like towards Arlington will be a bit cheaper yet still a somewhat short commute.
Send me a PM when you get into town and I will give you some contact info, maybe we can meet up. Also, send an email to [email protected] so I can get you on the mailing list. :thumb:

Welcome!

First off welcome to the DC metro area! 99v8sho is right about the cost of living. Let me also say that we all commute ALOT around here and its very common to see people spending much of there time commuting to work and in traffic. I beleive DC traffic is the worst. And everyone here can testify to that.

Arlington is closest to the Pentagon. But I think your best bet would be Falls Church area. Or somewhere around the Tysons corner area. But im no real estate. Dont feel let down if you decide to live 40-45+ minutes away from DC, Cause the fact is, MANY of us have to!

Ahh don't let the fact that I am close to DC fool you. I could get to DC in about a half hour, but I live in a very suburban/rural area. LOTS of open road. :)

JC - If you have to drive on 495 at all from 5am - 8pm definately leave yourself an extra 45 minutes of commute time. Seriously. It gets ugly.

Hey thanks for the replies! Yes, Ive heard so much about the traffic over there. SCARY!! Becuase of that I have been looking for an apartment somewhat close to where I will be working. So far I've seen one bedrooms from $650 +up! DAMN! My sister has a 2 bedroom in Oklahoma for $500! My new salary income will be $31,500. I have no car payments and no kids so hopefully I will do OK. I'm still looking online for a decent place but there is just so many communities and options! So far theres a place in Alexandria (?) that I am interested in. Is it true that you have to pay $85 per car for parking (a month) in most apartment complexes? Ay ay ay... everthing is so NEW to me! I leave here May 6th and should arrive on the 8th in a Uhaul towing my SHO. Shortly after I'm settled in my company will send the Jetta out. Im soo nervous! Look foward to meeting some of you guys! Heres my car BTW.
