Hey guys, first off I am new here, so sorry if this is posted in the wrong place or anything like that. I bought my 2017 SHO about a year ago as my first car out of college, and now I need new tires for it. I don't really have much experience with cars in any capacity so I was hoping to get some advice on what to look for when buying new tires and if there are any good places to buy from. Thanks for the help!

if it helps I looked at tirerack.com and there were only 2 results, both of which had less than 3.5 stars with 200+ reviews, so I took my dads advice and looked for a forum where I might be able to get help with stuff like this and a couple other issues I am having

sorry, my bad. the size we were looking at was 245/45R20 99V. I am not sure what all would work for the car though, or even really the difference between sizes (other than actual size of course)

The favorites around here at the ones TX mentioned and my Michelin Pilot Sports both very well respected.

Keep in mind summer only tires for both.

iirc 255/45/20 tires are preferred for the extra width, but also much easier availability.

That's the size I put on mine in the General G-MAX A/S 05. While not a popular tire in these parts, this is my 3rd (or 4th) set on this SHO and have never let me down.

I do have the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus on another vehicle and they are every bit capable as the group says.

I have been impressed with Kuhmo Ecstas, its a summer sport tire, relatively cheap, but they are fairly sticky and I've had good luck with them on my wifes fusion, and my foxbody mustang. probably not the same performance as the conti's and the michellens but its an inexpensive option that Ill probably put on my taurus when the time comes. it really depends on the use of the car, using it on the track, daily driver, highway, snow, speed?

Had the Kumhos on a different vehicle (2003 Mercury Marauder) for 2 sets and they never failed me. (Since I was living in a higher elevation I had the A/S tires but experience still remains very positive of them.)

Michelin pilot sport a/s 4 is the best all season tire for the SHO. My PP came factory with the p-zeros, they got thrown away at 300 miles because they are trash compared to the Conti extreme contacts or the Michelin’s, between those 2 best options the Michelin seem to have the best traction off the line even a lot better then the Conti but both are about the same everywhere else, I run the 255’ instead of the 245’s.

That's an interesting thought; I had the Pilot Sport A/S 4 on the previous car and did not like them nearly as much as the Continentals. I'm no track star but I do occasionally whip my cars around and prefer the Continentals over the Michelins.

I do scca time attacks with the SHO sometimes, it’s more fun then the gt350r or the Lambo pushing that big girl around a tight coned parking lot against the clock. I ran both tires and the a/s 3’s now replaced with the a/s 4 really gripped better then the Conti’s. And on the street the a/s 4’s spin a tiny bit (almost a bark) compared to the Conti’s that spin a bit more from a dig. Not a Hugh difference but I noticed it for sure specially the amount of spin from a dig. To be far I’m talking cold, not like you can warm up the tires on time attack runs unless you are hot lapping your runs.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I have found some tires. I ended up going with the Continental Purecontact LS, 245/45R20. Just a couple more dollars than the ones Tex suggested but had 20k more on the manufacturer warranty, and a lower speed rating which shouldnt matter for me since I just use it mainly to get to work and back, thank you all for your help!

My pp 2016 mustang GT came with them also, they made it to 200 miles before they got swapped for gt350 wheels with the factory Michelin pilot sport cups, both summer only tires, oh really, well the p zeros I could back out of the driveway and drop the hammer and spin them pulling 4th gear and bark them in 5th, 30 minutes later the sport cups where on and did the exact same rolling backwards at 5mph drop the hammer launch, spun 1st, 6’ marks in 2nd, barked 3rd. P zeros are a joke! We should start a p zeros suck club, lol

@Crio sounds to me like they have a purpose, nothing like a good hard compound tire to make you feel like a kid again. I had a set of cheap hard tires with a 14" rim on my foxbody when i bought it, 2:73 gears 5.0 5speed, I could rip through 3rd and bark 4th. I hated the tires and the wheels so I changed them but not before I got all the goody from that rubber and undercoated my wheel wells with it. So the Pirelli's could be good choice for those after the awd slide

I know this post is old, but just came to say I wish I was on this forum before I bought my pirelli tires I loved them at first but they are literally falling to pieces in chunks. Tried to use my warranty but they say it's the way I drive and not a defect. Needless to say I'm in the market for new tires, going to check out some of the suggestions made.

We had continentals on the explorer and I hated them, they seem to be a top choice so I'll try to get over my hate

More than a year later and my beliefs have grown stronger in this statement.

When these Pirelli Cinturatos are done on the newly acquired vehicle, I'll be swapping to the DWS06.
