Did you buy a new gasket as well? Always good to replace it while everything's apart. Changed mine last week, not too difficult at all

Does it have the jiggle valves and/or the gasket/o-ring? I got both the stock 192 degree and a 180 degree lower temperature premium level Robert Shaw units at Murray's.

They threw in the gasket for free. I would have bought one anyways. as for the jiggle valve? Well, it works anyways.

As for installing it. Let me tell you. I would like to throttle the ******* that had the brainstorm to put the hose clamp right next to the t-stat housing. I had a bitch of a time moving the clamp down the hose so I could get the housing off. but I finally got it. I took it out for a drive. The heat comes on a lot sooner than before. Before, it would take a good ten minutes before I felt and decent heat out of the vents. now it is almost immediate. So maybe the high engine temp problem will go away as well. only time will tell.

Just to make sure, the gasket is really the rubber seal that goes around the outside edge of the thermostat. There is no fiber gasket between the metal portions of the housing.

Ya, I know what the gasket is. :p

Anyways, I took the car out for a long drive tonite. the temp quickly raised to the L in NORMAL and stayed there. it didnt drop when I got on the highway, and didnt rise when I was in stop and go for a while. much better than before. Before, the temp used to take forever to go up, then it would drop below the first hash when on the highway. and rise almost to the R when in stop and go. I am happy.
