My cooling system shows no signs of any leaks. But because it ran so hot I figured I had a bad thermostat. So I changed it and the car still has the same symptoms of running hot! The hoses do not have any pressure in them and are limp? The engine seems really hot after driving and the hoses are soft. Installed a new reservoir cap as well still no change? Does anyone know what may be the problem? My car is a 1996 Gen 3 with a new radiator cap on top the reservoir.

If you have the black-top reservoir, just replace it with a Dorman clear-top unit from Autozone. It's listed as the V6 DOHC unit, but it's the same for the V8. $27, and it comes with a new cap.

FYI, it seems that if you cross-thread the cap once, it never seals again properly.

Yes I cross threaded mine once and it would not ever seal again after that. I keep a spare on hand now. The car will not run long without good pressure in the system.
