I watched that video a few months ago. I'm still wondering about oem coils I bought off amazon last year.

Maybe order them straight from Ford next time? That is terrible packaging.

No that’s super wonky. I just got mine in a case of four with two loose in their own box. And, they had green dots on the coil ends.

Have found Ford packaging to be sometimes ... dismal. They should be xtra careful with things like spark plugs.

Guess I got some of the last 542s last year. Finally got around to installing them today. Those back three are a real pain, but managed to do them without removing the crossmember. OEM removed had gaps a bit over .044, with 93K miles. I don't expect to be changing plugs again. Plug boots and coil seals look like new, so now I have a set of spare plug boots.

I was planning to buy a set of boots for when I do my plugs if you want to sell yours.

Uh oh! Bringing this thread back to life to share my mistake. I pulled what I thought were 542s which show about .032 gap after 9 months and 6K miles, mostly highway (see pics). But, I discovered they were actually SP-524s (marked AYFS092FE1 on the insulator). That explains why I had to close the gap on them significantly before putting them in. The mix up was probably my error in ordering the plugs two years ago.

I replaced them with the SP-580s with confirmed gap of .032. From the rest of my homework today, it looks like that's the right gap for my 2011 SHO with Roush CAI and SCT tune set for 91 octane (but usually given 93) for daily driving and highway (assertive driving, but not aggressive.)

Interesting part is I didn't see any noticeable change in engine performance or mileage. Heat range on the 524s was 9, while 580s is 6. I'll be watching to see if there's any difference on our upcoming road trip.

Recommendations are welcome.

I've been experimenting with other brand plugs and have had great luck and experience with Brisk Racing plugs. I initially started out with some of their Silver Racing plugs, PN: RR12YS, which is a heat range 8, a step colder than the 542s. Ran them for a bit and I think they were a bit too cold of a plug as I had some part throttle stumbling. Switched to their RR14YS, heat range 7 (equivalent to the 542s) and it's cleared all up.

Plugs are gapped to 0.26

I think I'll be sticking with them going forward, unless I discover any issues once I get some mileage on them.

Anyway, check out my post on it:

I didn't update that thread yet with my recent change to the RR14YS, but will do that shortly.

Any reason you chose the Silver Racing over the Premium LGS? Do you have back to back tests with data by any chance? The tests on their website look promising, just curious for real world on our platform.

I didn't really have any scientific reason for choosing the Silvers over any of their other models other than on the recommendation of a very reputable tuning shop we have out here locally. Lots of high HP CTSVs, Trackhawks, EVOs, etc come out of this shop. I dont have experience with the LGS plugs and they sound good in the narrative, but I know this shop swears by the Silver's and they've got the credibility with the vehicles they've pushed out.

That being said...would be a cool experiment to see how well the LGS perform.

And no tests back to back. Just my datalogs don't show anything that would indicate they are doing more harm than good and that they are doing what spark plugs need to do. Im generally pleased with them to this point. But who knows, that may change as I put more miles on them.

I pulled a couple of 542 plugs that have 2 years and 20k miles on them. They looked good but is it recommended to replace them anyways every year regardless? I'm on an e30 tune and have lots of 542 I stock piled.

I replace them when they need it. I think my changed plugs at 22k miles, at 56k miles and at 80k miles
