well the tranny in this car is not the original, it was rebuilt at some point although i dont have a date or paperwork on it. while up on the lift my mechanic pointed out the rebuilt plate on there so i hope it should be okay for i while. it shifts great with the exception of the 1st gear hard shift which i was told is normal for all taurus'. as far as the color, i like the SHO in general but i thought this red color was gorgeous over the others (not that i had a choice). well thanx for the compliment and i hope to be around for a while.

Mine shifts hard in the 1-2 shift, and that is not normal. It's a sign of wear IMO. He might have seen the sticker that's on the tranny pan that says something about an exchange... or maybe it was rebuilt who knows.

That's not rust on the trunk, it's aluminum. It's oxidation or something similar. Too bad about the ding by the headlight, you have a very nice looking car!

okay thanx for the heads up, i guess ill have it in to have the tranny looked at. the bills just rack up the first day or so of owning a car i guess. the oxidation on the trunk is not a biggie, ill have it taken care of in the spring. there is some bubbling on the pass. rear fender which is a problem area according to the body guy i go to. so its all gonna be fixed in time. as for the headlight, i need a new one and the ding can be tapped out and a bit of bondo will hide it perfect. i cant see doing the bodywork if the tranny and engine are just gonna crap out anyways

The only reason i bought the car was b/c it was so clean for the price. I held the dealer to a misprint in the listing online ($1,995 instead of $3,995) and just had to take it.

That's a awsome price!!!! I thought I got a deal on mine but man! even putting $$ into getting the cam's welded will still make that car a great deal for you, and you should beable to fine TR hood in any junk yard. Not like it's a uncommon color!

i was paying attention to my car when it shifts hard into 2nd and its only when the car it moving slow and cold. as for what i payed for my car, i thought it was good enough deal to weld the cams when i can. as for the hood its cheaper for me to just have the corner tapped out and touched up than to buy a hood, the paint is original and i like it to match well.

how do you figure? go to a pick n pull or u pull it,what ever you call them, hoods are like 24 dollars at most places...TR is a very very common color on non sho's,should be no problem...and why do you speak so negatively about your car? your fully aware of what needs to be done for the engine to last along time...and its atx, what do you expect?

I dont speak negatively about my car. at least not that i noticed...

As for the ding on the front corner, the body guy i take my cars to is a family friend who will just take care of it when I have the rust on the rear fender fixed so its almost not worth my searching to locate a hood (my local salvage yards dont have a TR hood)

I had it in the shop today for rotors and an alignment only to find out that the tires on the car were warn so bad that there were holes/tears on the inner edges (from too much camber).

Didn't you realize before driving home and before purchase that you should have examined the tires to make sure they were in a safe condition?

as far as examining the tires, the wear was on the inner most edges and I couldnt see it. the car drove fine other than needing an alignment. the outter and center parts of the tread werent great, but they were above the wear bars so I figured I could at least drive on them for the drive home and such. What I didnt see I shouldnt have had to.

Major tire wear, as shown in your pic, would even be noticed by Mr Magoo. What in the world makes you think "what I didn't see I shouldn't have had to"? Car salesmen are not the most honest people out there so you need to be on guard.

I pulled some off of my car somewhat like that. Mine was a bit more irregular and was attributed to bad toes. I just consider that maximizing use....

my car was inspected by an outside company, not the car dealer. they drove it out to a shop which inspected it. Being that the worst tires were on the front and should have been pulled during the inspection, they shouldnt have passed and I shouldnt have been able to take the car. so I shouldnt have needed to see the tires condition. i just feel that issue should have not come up b/c that car shouldnt have been on the lot with those tires to begin with.

I realize that you're young, but the earlier you learn to be an educated and informed consumer, the better such purchases will work out for you in the future. :thumb:

It doesn't take more than 5 minutes to give a car a good once-over to make sure that issues like bad tires, broken lamps, strange noises, missing parts, leaking fluids, etc. are brought into the negotiating process. Fortunately, you seem to have paid a good price for the car, so ponying up for some basic safety and maintenance items is a little less painful than it might have been had you paid more for the car.

I didnt pay for the new tires or the brake job. I went back and complained to the dealer and brought them the tire that was so horrible. I did pay for everything, but the dealer agreed to refund me since the car was not driveable to the dealer so that they could service it themselves. I wasnt about to pay for new tires or the brake service. I bought new calipers and paid for the alignment is all. I understand I needed to look more closely to the tires, it just wasnt something that seemed to need attention as the tread was better on the outer edge. overall I agree that the price was good so I can deal with a few maintenance issues.

You continue to miss the point as you try and pass the responsibility towards others. Regardless of being inspected and having an unsafe tire on the car, YOU, yes you needed to give it another inspection before YOU signed on the dotted line. You listed things that needed fixing (rotors, alignment, etc..,) that should have been done before you took possession of the car. Did you even drive the car before purchase? If you did, next time you buy a car, take someone with you.
