hey guys,

so ya i picked up a 93mtx show last week with 154k and the thing has been nothing but problems. anyway checked the codes KIEO mode didn't do the KIER (key in engine running) check. but i got a bunch of codes some more serious than others. well i got a bank 2 lean code o2 sensor not heating up. could be a vacuum leak or as simple as a bad o2 sensor. does anybody have a vacuum diagram for this engine and what the vacuum pressure should be. thanks

ohh ya and gas mileage sucks!!!!!!!!!! prob because of the issues

Post the code number please.

Vacuum diagram should be on the platic cover over the radiator.

Vacuum should be about 18 hg-in I think.

Vac leaks are most of the time linked with high idle and or bad idle rpm.

You most likely have a bad o2 , and bad o2 WILL give you bad MPG. Change both while your at it , you will improve your MPG.

Clear the codes and enjoy. Re-check your codes after a good run to see if theres anything else to fix.

thanks for the responses guys. lol the codes are:
542-fuel pump secondary ciruit failure
what the **** is this and where is it in the car. if its obvious like near the fuel pump excuse my ignorance
176-lack of heated oxygen sensor switches/lean bank 2
thats either bad o2 sensors or vacuum leak. as for idle don't know what the car is supossed to idle at. i'm hovering around 8-9 hundred.
219-spout signal defaulted to 10 degrees BTDC/spout signal open
alright, what the **** is a spout signal never heard this term before.
528-clutch position switch circuit failure

also one more thing. the car never heats up to normal operating temperature, not even close. it barely touches the botom of the C for cold. so i was snooping around the engine and decided to check the fluid. ya radiator refill cap came right off. so thats prob the problem right. the system isn't building any pressure. don't know why that wouldn't make the car over heat opposed to running cold. what do u guys think. and just for sh#ts and giggles which o2 sensor is bank 2 on because i have an extra one lying around the garage from the stang.

542 don't worry about, it usually comes up with a koeo test.

528 is a new one, and I didn't see it in the shotimes.com three digit code list for the SHO. Weird.

219 - spout connector. There's a plug that goes into a harness, passenger's side in the engine bay, near the firewall. It's a small gray plug in jumper. If it's not in there, it won't allow the computer to advance timing, and will make the car slow as molasses in Alaska.

Bank 2 is the front bank. Can't hurt to swap in a known good O2, hopefully that's all it is.

The overflow tank on the V6 cars isn't a sealed unit like the later models, it doesn't build pressure. I'd check the level, and ignore the gauge position for now. Check the upper radiator hose and make sure it's getting hot. This system builds pressure in the radiator, not in the overflow tank.

Sounds like your idle is right at normal.

The car probably needs a thermostat too. That'd explain the low operating temps.

are you talking about the gray plug that i used to pull the engine codes? i stuck a paper clip in a small gray plug and into another plug in the wiring harness on the pass side near the firewall. both of these plugs were unpluged?? can u show me a pic so i'll know if thats the right one?

New to us SHO

For sure change out both O2 sensors. Save the rear one as a spare.

154,000 Miles is about right for plugged catalytic converters. If you need them go to one of the vendors or e bay and get the new Y pipe. MPG's will improve a lot.

Change the thermostat.

Hard to say what maintenance was done by the previous owner, but if you bring everything current these cars will reward you with amazing performance and fuel economy.

Everything is available under "search".

Not the plug for pulling codes. It's in the same vicinity under the hood, though.

The plastic thing has a jumper wire inside it. That's all it really is, is a jumper to complete the circuit. They are, however, direction specific. If your jumper is there, try pulling it out and putting it back in the opposite way. In other words, flip the terminals around. Not 100% sure, but I think they're direction specific.

Best bet is used either from a junkyard or a member here. It's not a common item to go bad though, is yours missing?

no the one on the firewall is there. haven't checked the other one yet. ya i wouldn't think it would be a common item, but it's not the problem why is my car throwing a code saying it is? what else could be the culprit??

Your biggest issue is that spout signal plug being missing. The 02 sensors are never a bad idea and I have found that the Motorcraft ones are the only ones that work well.
With the spout signal plug missing, you are going to have terrible performance and terrible gas mileage. If your state has an emission test, this spout thing was removed to pass the test. Even though it runs terrible and gets poor mileage, the preset timing delivers great combustion efficiency and low emissions at the rpm required by the test.
