Hi All!

Any of the old faces still around?

Thought of this board, picking up an Explorer sport this weekend. Back to a sho! (Well, the engine at least)

And yep, thats my old car!!! Wow that brings back memories! I didnt own it long but have very fond memories of it and my white 92. I think that ended up in the Pacific Northwest somewhere

Wow, looks like its done a fair bit of traveling over the years!

I bought it in 2002, I think? It was owned for a long time by a guy in Silicon Valley. It had a Powerdyne Supercharger, the big brake kit, suspension stuff, drivetrain mods (clutch, quaife, etc) and a bunch of other things. It only had 80k miles on it and it was an absolute delight to drive.

The bad news: Blowby. The engine was close to giving up the ghost. It dyno'd a max of 370 to the front wheels, most I saw it do the one time I had it on the dyno was closer to 330. At the time I figured different conditions etc, but in hindsight that was just another symptom of coming problems. The previous owner was running very heavy weight oil, and had installed a catch can to catch any blowby, which he said was normal.

After owning it for a couple of months, my other car (also a Sho) started to need more and more tending to and I was having to take too much time away from work to deal with car stuff, so I cleaned house and got rid of both. I sold the Green one to a guy in LA. He loved it, and took it down to the shoshop in huntington.......surprise! The front desk guy there goes "oh, yeah, I know this car, the rings are worn, its been an issue for some time."I guess the owner before me clued into the problem and decided to get out of the car before things took a turn for the worse.

The new owner called me and asked me to take the car back. I regretfully told him no. He was upset, but caveat emptor, I suppose. I still felt bad about it, and a few months later I pinged him via email to find out what he was doing with the car. I found out he had parked it and bought a little beater to get around in for the moment while he saved to have it fixed. That killed me. So i suggested that he bring the car back to me and I would sell the blower off the car, which would cover the cost of a new motor. He jumped at the idea. Tyler and Efren (I dont remember their handles on here) swapped in the 3.2, painted the manifold and back the car went. The -then owner was thrilled with the result and that was the last I heard of the car.

Saga not quite over though......the supercharger went to a guy back east and the damn blower let go almost immediately! I couldnt believe it. Turned out that running 9lbs of boost put the blower at basically max impeller speed or maybe even slightly over.

Anyway, there you have it.

Thanks for the history on the car! It must have been quick before the engine and supercharger went south. Do you have any pictures from back then?

I do not think it has changed drastically since the 3.2 was swapped in. Seems like it was always owned and well maintained by forum members. It is still running and driving great. I do not use it much right now but hopefully I can put some miles on it too.

You know you want another one. Maybe a Gen 1 this time?

Actually it lasted a LONG time! Just not with me.

The prior owner drove it about 40k miles at 6lbs of boost and about 300whp. I think the problems started when he turned it up to 9lbs. The receipts indicated he had the blower rebuilt fairly recently, and then it let go again within about 5k miles. Just too much impeller speed for that model supercharger

Luigi, i did have the s2000 for a while. That got supercharged but it still wasnt all that fast, so i traded for a z06 which i got up to about 500hp naturally aspirated. Then THAT wasnt fast enough and a supercharged z06 popped up for sale locally. Thats........been fast enough for about ten years now (just a hair under 700 to the wheels) though ive driven it about 500 miles in the last two years. Dailys are a 2012 jcw mini cooper s which is a riot on wheels, and now an explorer sport, which is what made me think of this forum again to begin with.

I'll see if i can dig up any pictures of the green car, they must be on a computer somewhere

Funny, I just saw a mini the other day and thought with enough hp those look like they could be go-carty fun. Welcome back.

Lookin good! Powa?

Yes, that was the first Z06 you got a ride in. Was stock too, which is why you were busting my chops about it being slow :D

Ha! It was a fun ride! Need to take a spin in the new one!

Haven't dyno'd my latest turbo setup. Maybe before the Texas 1/2 mile event next month.

Hi Oz,

The car left CA and was sold to a Gentleman in Oklahoma. I then brokered a deal with Tim who was friends with the guy and my wife bought the car. It was in OK shape but really needed some attention. She daily drove it for about 4 years and Autocrossed it quite a bit. We drove that car from North Carolina to CA a few times. We replaced every single suspension component in that car, right down to every bushing. Rebuilt the A/C, replaced nearly every seal on the engine, did a clutch, re-did the interior, upgraded a few items and really just made it an absolutely solid car. We put 40,000 miles on it. I then sold it to a good friend, Brian (He is on here) who put another 40,000 miles on it. Brian had only one failure...a Starter. Otherwise, he replaced the rod bearings and sold it to some kid in the NE who quite frankly was an idiot. Idiot kid sold it to some other stupid kid . (Yes, I know, I was an idiot kid back when you were active on these forums :) )

Chevcp own's it now and appears to be taking much better care of it over the last kid who had it.

Needless to say, it was a fantastic car. It never left us stranded and was just a joy to drive.

Hope all is well.

Funny, I ended up in a Z06 myself...after selling my S/C SHO, and going through a few different cars. =)

(Right before we sold the car)

Cool pics Sam. I get a kick out of how well documented this car is on here. I'm hoping Oz will find some pics of the engine bay when it was supercharged.

What happened to that set of wheels in the 2nd pic? Looks good!

I bought the car from high school kid just a few towns over. I believe he was the second owner in MA. He was really nice but seemed frustrated with the car (definitely in over his head). I went a little crazy with repairs and maintenance over the winter. It's getting there.

I noticed many of the forum members stay active even after their SHO's are long gone. Seems like a great community. I certainly appreciate all the advice, info and parts I have found on here. And yes, I did make a donation when I first joined ;)

Hey sam! Glad to hear it treated you well!

Chev, i found pics. Will post em in a day or two. And if sam is referring to the miglia wheels, GET EM

I picked up a 16 explorer sport with the sho motor a few days ago. Sucker feels strong for a fifty thousand pound suv!
