Bought a new rack for the 95 SHO. The listing looked good.... SHO, Variable assist, but it did say 2 hole model, which did not register with me. Rack arrives and the Variable Assist unit does not mount well, and when the Variable Assist unit is unbolted from the rack, there are 3 holes to attach the unit.
My question is, can I use this rack and not have variable assist. My other choice is to swap the lines from the new rack onto my original rack (it is the lines that are bad, not the rack)?

I am wondering if my pump will behave badly if it doesn't have that variable thing hooked up, as I don't know how they work.
I will look to see if the hose ends are threaded the same. I have new hoses, but of course they are for the 95, not a first gen.
What are the chances the metal lines on the unit can be swapped from one rack to the other? They are the same shape visually, but I can not see the ends that disappear under a cover on the ends of the cast rack housing.
It is being done at a shop and it is apart now, so I am under a bit of pressure to come up with a solution.
My best bet could be to order another unit, and that is still a good option, but it means waiting for it to arrive.

Pump is the same regardless of VAPS.

As far as the lines go, I guess you could try, but I wouldn't put the work into it, especially if it ends up not working.

What was the part number and where did you get it? Maybe you got the wrong rack.

It is the wrong rack alright, it is for the Gen 1 SHO which is not VAPS.
The ShoSource website has a good picture of the difference between the two. That is where I will be going to get the replacement if this doesn't work out the way the shop has it solved.
The shop swapped the external lines from the new rack onto my existing rack and it seems to be a good solution. These external lines were the source of the leak, my old rack is still working great.
It is not reassembled yet, so I don't know if this was the total cure. I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

Got the rack problem solved.... not completely tested yet, but a solution.
Turns out the solid lines are interchangeable and the shop swapped the new lines on my original rack, and they installed my new in and out flex lines, so I should be good for awhile.
For people in the rust belt... which is a lot of us, very often the on-line places are clearing out their old rack selection. Often, you can buy them for under $100.00 and no core requirement. Sometimes it is cheaper to get one of these racks and do the line swap. I have heard a lot of criticism of rebuilt racks, so if your original rack is sound, this could be a way out. I don't think the lines are available any other way.
Just a little heads-up on a nasty little problem.
