I installed a new Pioneer DEH-P7600MP in the SHO this weekend. I used the wiring harness adapter and bypass cable available at Best Buy to install it, and it works GREAT!

I am totally blown away at the improvement in sound quality when the amp is bypassed. Before this deck, I had a nice, older Kenwood Excelon deck in the car (until it got stolen). I never bypassed the amp with that deck, and it actually didn't sound as good as the stock deck.

What's really great is I got the deck on sale for $155, and the wiring harness kit from Best Buy was only $17.00. I had to practically beat the salesperson and cashier off with a stick to get them to stop harassing me about extended warranties, "speaker protectors," and letting them "professionally" install it.

I'm really happy with this new deck, and am already enjoying the MP3 and WMA capability it has. I was thinking about buying an aftermarket amp and sub eventually, but with this setup, I can hold off...

I've always been a fan of the Pioneer decks. I have a DEH-P6400 sitting over on my shelf, and my car now has an older 7000 series deck. Nice stuff and good features.
After having a buddy install my stereo, I realized how easy it was to do it yourself.

Nice choice on the deck - I like my Pioneer, but will be replacing it with an alpine because I think they sound a lot better.

I went to buy a home stereo, the the guy wouldnt sell it to me unless I purchased the extended warranty...after 35 minutes of aruging I walked out (keep in mind the store closed at 9, and I walked out at like 9:30) and the guy's jaw dropped...went back the next day and got the radio...when asked about the warranty I was like "dont even ask if i want that p.o.s., just sell me the d*mn radio"....I got some looks from people, but i go the radio.

I also have a pioneer in the truck and in the car...mp3's make for less cd changing. :thumb:

I had the experience at Good Guys that they would not sell me the product without a warranty, i said " Fine, as long as i dont pay for it and you include it with the price of the stereo."

Comes back and the manager says "include the warranty with the price of the stereo."

Never hurts to try, the worse that will happen is youll get a no, or may just get it your way. ;)

Excelent choice! :thumb: (see below)

What speakers are you running?

I'm running the stock speakers right now. Eventually I'd like to upgrade, but it sounds pretty good running just the stockers...

It is surprizing how good stock speakers can sound, isn't it?

When you do get ready to swap them out, I highly recomend eclipse. I have 4-way in the rear (oversized to 6x9, stock is 5x7 I think), and 3-way in the front. Perfect balance, no extra tweeters needed to keep the sound at head level.

thats the exact deck ill be getting in the coming weeks.

i found a really good price on it here:

http://www.shopharmony.com/product.asp?i=DEHP4600MP

That's a nice unit too, basically the same electronics without the OEL display. I have the 4600 in my toyota pickup, and one will be going in my Le Baron GTC. Sounds nice! They have a nifty steering wheel mounted controller too.

for anyone that had the DEH-P4600MP, i'm wondering about the AUX input adapter- i'm guessing thee's no RCA input on the back of the head unit? so how does this input adapter work, it had a separate plug on the back from the wiring harness that it plugs in to?

They use what they call an "IP-BUS cable". It is for a multi-cd player. I'm not sure if you can get a non pioneer cd deck to plug in...

For the manuals: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4039_50410536,00.html

Hope this helps!

Sounds good! I have bought several things from etronics.com, they seem to be pretty good.

Let me know how it turns out. :thumb:
