Wow. Just wow. I can understand imperfections like crackling, orange peel and bubbling with a cheap paint job but patches of primer showing is just inexcusable.

I know right!!! My friend that used to do ALL of my paint work (til he moved to Michigan) saw these pics and said his wife asked why he was turning so red from a text message. He said for $1200 he would have mad it show quality (or SHO quality if you will) and even done jambs and such. UGH!!!

Ok, so I spoke to the owner of Bodylines, Joe. Told him everything I found wrong with the car this time. He didn't act surprised and offered to repaint the entire car this weekend. I then offered to assist with prep work and such so I can make sure it gets done properly. Plus I want to learn how to do this anyway. So it's like a free crash course to get me started. I know I have alot of years to learn the tricks of the trade, but ya gotta start somewhere.

I will update this thread after the weekend.

Part of my $1200 I guess. LOL Better than bad reputation. I think it's too late for that though. But I'm giving him this last opportunity to make it right.

Wow I bitched and moaned for paying $1300 and having to do mine twice and you get round 3!? I'll admit, after horrible job #1, I severely lowered my standards and realized I was painting a $300 89 Taurus and that it would never be as nice as Ron Porter's red 89.

I can point out all the flaws in the new paint job, but overall I'm happy. It made a parts-car worthy SHO look like a $2-3k decent looking driver.

Yeah, I paid $850 for the car, but with paint and other new parts, I have just under $3100 in it now. And it's pretty solid now. My friend is fixing the AC for me, so That'll be like another $600. If it lasts about 1-2 years without grenading the ATX or the 3.2L, I'll be happy.

I am just astounded @ how naive & trusting some of you people are! If I were paying for a $500 or even a $5000 paint job, I would absolutely remove myself anything I did not want painted! like taillights, headlights, antenna bezel, window trim..... I would also remove all 6 bolts on bumper support to body so the bumpers can be slid out! Its the only way to properly prep & paint those areas! On a gen1 I would also remove the lower door cladding & prep them myself as they require lots of attention & its the first area to peel if not done correct. & I would never do a color change without doing the jams first! Go Big OR go Home!

To each his own. This is my beater car. It's only going to last me about a year then I'm getting a newer car. Don't care about the jams, and i HATE green. Not expecting a show car quality paint job. Just anything was better than what it had before.

Yep. Can't cheap out on a paint job.

In 1996, I had the black '89 repainted by the local Porsche+Audi dealer for $3K. With the other bodywork needed (deer hit on LF corner) plus rust repair, the total bill was $6K.

Job was PERFECT. Soon thereafter, I went to the '96 SHO Convention in Chicago to nothing but compliments.

Get what you pay for. IMO, any paint job under $2K is a waste, you might as well do rattle cans.

I paid $850 for the car. It's bad enough I spent $1200 on new paint. It's only meant to be a cheap car for a little bit while I save up for something better. I agree with no skimping out on a paint job...if the car is worth spending the money on. I didn't see the justification of spending $2000+ on a paint job on a $850 car. I'm removing both bumpers, head and tail lights, side skirts, spoiler, and possibly the side moulding/cladding. This way I know it will get blue paint on it. LOL We talked about blacking out the jambs prior to reshooting the car this weekend. I'm prepping them this week already. I will post pics when done. I am not removing the motor, so the engine bay won't get full blue/black treatment.
Like I said, I hate dark green, these are the most popular colors of all the SHOs apparently, and the paint was horrible and the car had hail damage anyway. So most of all that is repaired, so it should be a scuff n' shoot...for the most part.

Hey, I'm pretty happy with my $700 paint job considering it was a $300 rust free 89 bound for the junkyard! Not sure how long it's going to last...but really...if the car was perfect otherwise, yeah I would have either spent a LOT more on a perfect paint job or saved up and bought a $5k+ already perfect SHO. I also did not do a color change (other than fixing the 1st guy's screw up). OEM 2F Currant Red single stage and no jambs needed painting.

I made it look presentable at least, and I bought halfway decent paint for it. That and the painter is a friend of one of my best friends and he knew I got burnt on the first deal, so he cut me a little bit of a break. It should have probably cost about $1k or so for everything.

Exactly what I was going for...good enough for the car. No need for a $5k paint job on a $850 car.

Your paint job still looks better than mine! lol
I will post pics after this weekend when we repaint it again.

So, took the SHO to Bodylines on Saturday morning ay 9am. We got started on it around 9:30. Worked all day on it, I pointed out all the places I found and wanted addressed. They were more than cool and extremely friendly about everything. I dealt with Joe (owner) and Tony (prep guy). They actually ended up being really cool people and I made some new friends out of this ordeal.

The car turned out better than I expected! For a $1200 paint job, it's looks amazing now. It's more like a $2000-$2500 job (except the jambs). But he fixed the spots I pointed out, sanded entire car, and ended up spraying it around 4:30pm.

It looks amazing now! There are a few spots that he said he would wet sand and buff out in a few weeks for me, but he is going to do it himself, not this other Tard that did it last time (whom they no longer use).

All in all, the entire expereince sucked up until Saturday. They stayed true to their word, they made it right, and we all made friends. So can't ask for much more than that I guess.

Here's a few pics...

I like you theme. car looks very nice. It would probably look a lot hotter with dark tint and lowered suspension, at least a little bit.
