Im new to the SHO. Not new to Fords though. Looking at buying an SHO. Is there any years that are better than others? I have seen a very nice blue on some of the for sale ads online. What years was the bright blue available? The newest ones seem to have a darker blue..

Not sure on the blue color. I have ruby red which is really nice in person, especially with a fresh wash and wax. The later years tend to be better as all of the common gremlins have been resolved. I have a 2015 with 3300 miles. No issues so far, but it is still low mileage.

Anything with Sync 3

Oh wait, that means 2016 and up. ;)

Seriously though, the cars are basically unmodified from 2013 and up, except for certain things that have gone through some changes like the PTO. I believe it has been updated internally a few times, mostly for longevity.

But back to Sync 3 - it really is a step-up from Sync 2. And even though Ford isn't putting Sync 3 2.0 in the Taurus that I know of, you can upgrade it so you can get Android Auto, and whatever Apple calls their car thing. They'll display right on the Sync screen. The Apple version requires a $60 USB hub replacement as well.

Is Sync 3 really that much of an improvement over Sync 2? I was initially looking at low mileage 2016s because of that distinction but I'm having a hard time justifying the ~$8k premium for ~30k miles and Sync 3. I know the aftermarket module is $2k but I'm also worried about that freaking out if Ford tries to push an update to it or something.

I can't really say it's WORTH it - but it was the reason I went for a 2016 instead of a 2015 when had to turn in my 2013 lease. I waited 3 months after the lease end to get a 2016. (BTW, it's really easy to extend a lease with Ford - they do it in 2 month increments, same monthly price).

$8K for 30K miles is a lot of difference. It would take more than a year of lease payments to make up that difference for me. And at 15K miles a year, that still works out to be a great price-to-mileage ratio. Not sure what KBB says about that though.

The differences are such that the entire system is much more responsive, it has points-of-interest built into it without it dialing out to Sync Services (which is being discontinued anyway). Yes, Sync Services that you need with Sync 2 to do points-of-interest, or other such information, is being discontinued I think later this year. You won't be able to renew or newly subscribe, and it will totally go offline somtime in 2018 I think.

Thanks for your input. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the 2014 since it's a great price. If I need to use my smartphone for navigation, so be it. It won't be any different than what I'm doing now! Except I'll be driving a beast of a car and my butt will be nice and warm in the winter.

The navigation works on my 2013 but I still use my phone often for live traffic updating. You can't screen mirror but if I listen to music on my phone the nav directions will come through also.
