I purchased a new Ford Factory Compressor which was sealed and pressurized. The technical specs for the product in the product description were:

Compressor w/ 6 grv. 10P15F. YC173
Pag 46, 8 oz.
Compressor Type 10P15F
Clutch Type 6 Gr.
Clutch Diameter 5.048in (128.22mm)
Number Of Grooves 6 Gr.
Volts 12
Mounting Distance 2.058in (52.28mm)

which meant the compressor was supposed to come with the oil.

I called the retailer (Auto Air Plus) and am getting a story that their compressors don't come with oil. I tried to explain to them that this was a NEW ford factory compressor and the product description stated 8 oz. of oil. I had specifically asked about this when I inquired (to make sure) that the product came with the clutch assembly AND the oil. But they are denying this.

So now I'm screwed. I don't have a car and would have to walk to an auto parts store if I can find one close to me and look for an equivalent oil.

It took me 6 hours to get the compressor out (removed the wheel, splash guard, battery tray, alternator, front motor mount, coolant supply reservoir, disconnected the shift cables at the transmission (to avoid any stretching when lifting up the motor/transmission), throttle cable assembly (to avoid stretching when lifting up the motor/transmission) ....

 Any suggestions.

There's no way I'm putting this thing back together without the new compressor in it. If the compressor fails, then I want a new compressor. If they don't give me one, I'll take them to small claims court with the product description from their website and the Ford Manual which states that the compressor comes with 240 ml (8 oz.) of oil.

any shop that you take it to, to get the a/c refilled at will be able to get the oil you need. if you are going to fill the a/c yourself you can buy it where you get your refrigerant at. If I remember fords take ester 100 oil but I my be wrong.

If you can get a shorter belt (I've forgotten the length) you can bypass the A/C until you get the oil. That way it isn't spinning with no oil in it.

but the ac will not turn until you activate it or fill the system

so go ahead and put the new compressor in there

it will not turn on or even move until you have the damn thing filled anyway

and when you fill it the guy can out the oil in while filling it

thats why at the dealership i was the tear down guy for the wrecks. the air chisel and the mini sledge were my 2 best friends. i tore cars apart like someone else was paying for the repairs.

Note: I never wrecked anything that was still good, i did however wreck lots of stuff that any ins adjuster would say was still borderline and could be repaired with some jb weld. if it was broken, it was REALLY broken by the time i was done.

as a serious note there is a sensor that when system is empty will make the system not turn on

and as plug well dont plug any to be safe and im sure it will not even cycle till you have it fill up and with oil filled at the same time you will be ok

Thats what I was reffering to when I said something about a "limit" switch :) Some are high, some are low... if either are out of the "desired" range it'll switch it off. Leaving the connector off would be a sure fire way to make sure it dosen't engage tho. :)

leave them all unplugged to be sure but even with one remove the system wont turn on

just be sure when the gy fill it up that he know it all unplugged

cuz some dont check and are sleeping on the job

Just leave the compressor unplugged, thats ALL thats needed. screwing around with unplugging extra stuff just starts adding extra hassle to things and starts adding possible problems when you break a connector or damage a wire.

case in point: my father fixed the brake lines on my moms car, and disturbed (bumped) a nearby connector for the starter. it took us 1/2 an hour to figure out that the car wouldnt start simply because a connector that LOOKED connected was in fact now damaged.

ProjectSHO was right about the viscosity.

I bought Castrol 46 PAG oil. They sell an 8 oz bottle with an added ingredient "improving" the oil's performance.

So I installed the compressor.

Strange thing, the car sounds a LOT quieter during idle and a lot less vibration. But then again, the clutch was toast on the compressor. I tried to replace the clutch on the stock compressor while it was in the car, but I couldn't get one of the the snap rings to seat properly. It ran fine for about a weak, then started smoking :omg: which I could see rising from the hood as I was driving.

So I never turned it on again.

Today, I go for system evacuation and charging.

I'd do it myself, but I don't have a vacuum pump.
