Well, with over 200k on her and some long car trips in our future, I decided it was time to shift the SHO over to collector car status and just use her on warm and sunny summer days plus the occasional Show & Shine or when I really need a back seat.

Her replacement is a new to me 2011 Porsche 911, specifically a model 997 Carrera 4 S in a very dark metallic blue with a dark grey leather interior and just over 10k on the clock. She has all the important suspension and engine options I wanted (sport chrono plus, PASM sport, etc.) plus a couple I did not care about (high end stereo, navigation, cornering lights, etc.).

Now I just have to build a new garage for the SHO. :)

I always forget how to get pictures here. One moment, and I will try to drag and drop one.

So, does that work?

I guess not.

Thanks guys.

Hey, Ron, do you still have one? I remember you used to have a 911.

Nope.

I owned it for almost 8 years, then sold it to Fred Hurder (former SHO guy from RI who used to be here on the Forum). He did a ton of work on it, put another 50K on it (I sold it to him with about 49.9K on it), then sold it to someone in VA.

These were pics from the day he came to pick it up, and it already had his plates on it. My former Moonlight '94 MTX and the then-new '05 LGT are in the background:

I want a 928 very much. An older body e30 M3 and a 928 have been on my wish list for a while.

Today we are off for our first trip in the Carrera, just over to the mainland to visit with some friends for an extended weekend. So we get to experiment with packing up its rather limited storage space. A challenge for my Jeannie, who is well known for her ability to stuff an SUV for an overnight run, 'just in case'...
Should be interesting... :)

I don't know what is better. The fact that you purchased a 911 (A SWEET 911)...or that you purchased it so you can put the SHO in the garage and DD the 911. Kudos to you!

Learning things about the new DD. Not even a wave at a spare for the 911 C4S. No bag, either. Instead they have one of those emergency seal and fill kits with the pressurized can you plug into the flat and press the lever. The result is a seal of any reasonable sized puncture and an air filed tire that will in theory get you to a place where it can be properly fixed or replaced. It is my hope to never have to test if
the theoretical is also practical.

Also in theory, the car is a coupe and hence a 2+2. So this last weekend over in Vancouver, we tested that with one of our friends. Jeannie is 5'2" and 105 lbs. Darlene is 5'4" and 125 lbs. So, we moved the passenger seat forward a good deal and Jeannie got in back with Dar in front. Both claim it was very comfortable and no space problems for knees, elbows, etc. But Jeannie noted the really nice seat heater that she had been admiring for the front seat was not available for the back. I noticed that to get Jeannie enough room the seat was way too far forward for it to work for the driver side with me driving,
so as we are not likely to get anyone much smaller than Jeannie, for all intents and purposes it is a 2 + 1 pretty small person car, at max, and really it is also a 2 person car under most normal circumstances.

:) Actually, that was one of my considerations when deciding I wanted a 2010-2012 model. I have been told by reliable people that the VW purchase of Porsche was already having an effect on the 2013 models.

Well, yesterday I put the SHO to bed for the winter. Put her in the spot were there is now a level gravel bed and eventually there will be a garage for her. Pulled the battery and put it on the trickle charger. And put on her new car cover, which amazingly fit perfectly out of the box. :) So, she now sleeps until next summer.
