I just got my SHO back from John Stoessel last night. After two months of saving up and buying the parts, returning wrong parts and a weekend of good, hard work from John, the SHO is back and better than ever!

The new RCM clutch kit and rod bearings were installed, along with a 17lb billet flywheel, all new seals, throw-out bearing and new O2 sensors. I first ordered the wrong TOB and had to have RCM send me a new one, which set us back 3 days. After that was done, it went smoothly.

The car shifts like a brand new car! The clutch is feather light and crisp. The engagement is exact and the flywheel helps the engine rev faster.

I just wanted to put in a good word for John. He was a huge help and went out of his way to do a really good job. If anyone needs SHO work in Southern California, please send John an email at [email protected].

Best,
Ari

I think if you have the wrong set up it will chatter pretty bad. Don't have one so I don't know.

I don't know about any of that, but what I do know is that from asking around, I found that the 17lb flywheel is the most comfortable. I am not a racer and I drive in lots of So Cal traffic, so a flywheel where I have to rev to 4000rpm in 1st gear to move 5 feet every 10 seconds in isn't what I was looking for. All I can say is that the one I got is beautiful, works great and does NOT chatter. Revs nicely (could also be from the new O2 sensors) and I like it. 'Nuff said.

Glad you had a great experience with the clutch job. I know the feeling as my car felt new again once we installed the replacement clutch got it all back together. Enjoy the new feel. It's so nice having a properly working clutch! :thumb:

I have the 17lbs flywheel too. I am more comfortable with a steel billet flywheel over an aluminum one. I won't have to worry about availability of inserts in the future either. The 17lbs flywheel is less expensive than the aluminum one also.

I probably wouldn't have paid the $300 either, but I got a great deal on a new clutch/flywheel combo.

Oh, and propa to Bob. He sold me the flywheel. You all helped me pull this off. In the end, I spent less than the dealer would have charged to simply insall a new clutch and pressureplate / TOB and I got the flywheel, rob bearings, and O2 sensors, oil change and made a friend and now have a loyal SHO mechanic. There are still some good people out there.....

If you have your flywheel blanchard ground it most likely won't chatter unless you are running an exotic non organic clutch disc. Unfortunately Fidanza does not surface them from the factory which I don't understand. I know that Hays blanchard grounds their's.

I have 300 miles on my used (but re surfaced) SHOshop Al FW and Clutchmasters Stage I (organic disc) and I haven't chattered once.

BTW, you had the investigative reporter from 20/20 work on your car? :)

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad that I was able to get you a deal on the flywheel from Vadim. We are having a meet/BBQ March 4th. Hope you can come and see you there. Info is posted on the SHOCal (www.shocal.com).

What is blanchard grinding, and can I get this done at any machine shop?
