Looking for a decent reciever to run with the stock amps in the >= $400 range. Preferably something that could be hooked up by myself with minimal wiring, preferably none.

none.....i would change nothing except....add an amp and sub. splice into the signal wire for the sub amp...it's about a 1 volt signal....then you have a signal that is strong going to to the factory amp and sub, as well as your other amp and sub.... mine sounds great. there is nothing wrong with the premium speakers....actually the system is incredibally well balanced.... and that partly due to the deck. i do not know that minimal wiring could be achieved if you have the full premium system.

My JVC head unit is for sale. It lists for $429.95. I'll sell it to you for $325 with the wiring harness for easy plug and play. Here is a pic and the Specs below it.

The radio was installed Feb of this year and hasn't givin me a problem. I Don't have the need for VCR controls because i'm thinking on going with a DVD set-up. Thus ending up for me to up-grade to a higher level radio. You can use your factory wires and add amps if you wish in the future. Let me know what you think.

Comes with ALL paper work of ownership, FULL Warranty, and Detailed User Guide for proper set up !!!!

If you're asking for personal reccomendations, I dig the Alpine CDA-7875.

If you shop around, you can find it as low as $350, but it's normally $400.
http://www.alpine1.com will have pics.

It's got snazzy blue LED's, tons of controls for pretty much whatever you want to do. AI-net input for changer control, and the deck is XM-Radio ready!

I've got this deck, and it's great. 60W x 4, 3 pairs of 4V pre-outs (front, rear, sub), crossoves built into the deck, you can adjust subwoofer volume/turn it off, etc.

I'm getting my XM-Radio hooked up next week, then I'll have tons of cool music in my car.

I'm not always one that likes lots of buttons. I have the JVC KS-FX250 cassette head unit (40x4 $99) and the JVC 12-disc CD changer that I mounted in the trunk under the package tray. The changer cost me $134 I believe at wholesaleproducts.com, and the head unit is made to control it. I have decent "bump" from the stock system, but then again, I just left the stock territory too...

I have a Blaupunkt Nevada CD player that is yellow, it matches my painted interior accents. That particular model (the Nevada) comes in red, yellow and black. Also, a remote is optional. I love it!! Red would look awesome on a red car!!

I've got an older Pioneer CD deck, and it's decent. It's a DEH-P1100 (I think?) and doesn't even have detachable face. 45x4 though, and it cost me $200 bucks when I bought it about 2 years ago. It's been in 3 cars now, my old '93 Crown Vic, my mom's old '96 Taurus SLO, and now my current '93 red SHO. Lasted well, always performs, and has enough settings to play with to keep me happy until I can afford a new stereo.

Im with whoever said ALPINE. I dont have a Alpine deck in my car but in my opinion Alpine has the best CD player and being willing to spend $400 soesnt hurt either.
I have a Kenwood CD CHANGER deck in my car which is purely sweet and I will put it in the same class as ALIPNE. The Kenwood has a power rotating face that conceals your radio so it looks like just a panel- so theft is less likely. My Kenwood also has different sound stages to choose from, automatic station naming- if the station sends out a signal for the unit to recieve. Auto Disc Naming and title naming if the cd has it written into the coding. The Kenwood also has Traffic Indication. So if youre in a big city and youre listening to a CD but have this feature turned on it will break into the music when a traffic update happens. Kenwoods unit is real sweet if youre in a big city. The model I have is KRC-X858 and it may be on their site. www.kenwoodusa.com
I payed $399 for my unit about 2 years ago from Circuit City- on sale.
But I believe in ALPINE and KENWOOD. But now they have those XM Decks out too so you may want to look into one of those.

My system- Kenwood Deck MTX 5 ch amp Mtx XOVEr Boston Acoustics components (rear) rockford fosgate and Infinity Tweeter components (front) one JBL 10 aftermarket.

I'm very fond of Blaupunkt...get a 2K/2K1 Skyline receiver with the changer controls and you can also get an in-dash 5 disk changer to go along with it...fits very well in our double din slot I'm told...and there's a steering wheel mounted remote to sweeten the deal...check Ebay for Munchen's and Hamburgs....
