I just put new belts on last night and i hope they are not too tight, also the pulleys, I just snugged them. The belts i can twist them about half way around and usually that is how i figure but this is my baby and i wanna make shore that they arent too tight and that my pulleys are not on tight enoughf

The thumb rule for a belt span of between 10 and 14 inches is that you should only be able to deflect the belt about 1/4" with a firm push. It is safer for the components to have the belt less tight than more tight. You can always re-tension them if you hear a belt squeak at startup or compressor engagement.

someone define a "firm push". I don't have mine so tight right now that I need to lean my weight on the belt, but at the same time I need to give some decent pressure to get 1/4in of play

this is on a MTX.

There's a tq setting for the nut, but I forget what it is off the top of my head. It's been listed here recently.

TQ for the pully nuts (hehe) is 25-36 ft/lbs per the 95 Helms.

How much force would someone say is needed to make the 1/4in of movement in the belts? I can move mine about 1/4 without tooooo much effort, but it still requeres a little force.

FASTSHOMTX92,

DO NOT JUST SNUG the nuts that hold the pulleys on. There have been several instances of these nuts coming off while driving. Then you have the cost of the tow, and you lose about $185 worth of pulley and bearings (if both come off).

So, torque them to specification. I further recommend getting a pair of nuts, lock nuts, to replace the OEM nuts. This is added insurance. rangerj
