I just replaced the alternator and I noticed when i was driving if I went WOT, it woudl wind up to about 5k then the battery light would come on...Its new why is it doing this?? I checked the connections and it seems to be all good.

Is there a particular reason for this?? Is the alternator just a piece of junk?

maybe a crappy Alt. I just did mine sunday and im having no issues.besides the car is a money pit and im in love with it. oh and the trannys shifting funny. Are the voltage regulators part of the Alt or is it a separate piece I would check that. Put a meter on it (the battery) and see what it reads at idle, if its a manual have someone hold the throttle for a sec at 5k and check it the maybe your getting too much voltage? dunno man, hope you get it figured out. Check the cells in the battery just in case and check the terminals im sure you already have but im just trying to help you out.

Bad regulator. It's in full field mode. Probably overcharging the system at the time of WOT.

Replace the regulator, if internal... Replace the alternator.

A lot of these aftermarket ones are bad to boot, next time have it checked before you purchase it.

Common problem on the V8's. But it's not overcharging at high rpms, it's the reverse. On mine, the headlights go dim when the battery light comes on. The regulator is shutting down the field current at high rpms.

i had similar symptoms after i had my alternator repaired. the light would come on after one or two WOT take offs. the battery itself was almost drained when i put the alternator back in because i was driving it home when it crapped out and it was running on the battery only. i gave it some time and babied the car for a few days and the problem took care of itself. so basically... it could be nothing but i'd keep a careful eye on it and check the voltage like SHOsFAST said

Yea, same boat.. Lights DIM at like 5 grand

Where is this regulator??

The alternator LOOKS brand new, and it was in a box. The origional owner of this car bought a new alternator from napa in 03, he gave me boat loads of reciepts and he had one for the alternator. He paid 283 bucks for it before the core charge. It was a new alternator, so im assuming its a new one now. It looked new and it was in a sealed box.

I just want to get all the little stuff fixed on this car, Im tired of having broken or not working things...Im leaking oil, an possibly burning some too, need a front 60k, new timing belt tensioner, sunroof is stuck open, cracked windshield..Now this

Integral with the alternator.

I had these same symptoms, doesn't seem to have been my voltage regulator, just an alternator belt too loose and slipping at WOT. Try it again with the windows down and radio off, and see if it's the belt.

Maybe the wrong size pulley on the alternator. Us V8 Folk get the windstar pulley all the time.

usually brand new parts don't have a core charge........

since they don't need a core to rebuild........
