Purchased a new 2010 SHO. 402A, Nav, 20".

I would've purchased 2011 but i couldn't beat the price on the holdover 2010.

Same for me, I would have order a 2011 but got a great deal on the 10 and the car was exactly what I would have ordered, so I bought the 10. I really like the SHO, am pretty pleased with everything about the car.

I am disapointed. I have a 3000GT VR4 with a 3.0L AWD. I have converted to E85 and new turbos and tune and it puts out 627 dyno AWHP. It is stable and reliable daily driver in this setup. I have put 32,000 miles on it without a failure.

I was thinking about doing the same with a newer car like this one. After research it appears the drive train will not handle that much power. Not sure if the engine can handle that power but it does not matter if the drive train can not handle it.

You realize the Taurus is probably about 1,000 Lbs heavier (probably more actually but I don't want to exaggerate) than your 3000GT right? That is roughly 33% more car than your car is carrying around. Add that kind of weight and drive your existing car hard and I would be shocked if you go 10K before you have pieces flying in every direction.

Of course a new SHO has a warranty to uphold too...

From my days with a Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo (sister to the VR4) I recall lots of transmission issues and spline shaft failures. I even helped a buddy change out the tranny twice on his VR4 with larger turbos, still no where near 627 crank HP. He even had a strengthened tranny from the outfit out of Arizona whose name escapes me at the moment. They are pretty much the only place that offers a rebuilt tranny for the VR4. I doubt your drivetrain would handle many 627 AWHP launches. Similarly, the drivetrain in an SHO could handle much more power if everyone eased in to the throttle.

This was naggin at my brain, I looked it up the VR4 is heavier than I expected for the coupe but still 700+ Lbs lighter than the roughly 4400 Lb curb weight of the 2010 SHO, the Spyder is almost 4K at the Curb.....

After driving an F-150 and a Lincoln Mark LT for the past 13 years, the SHO feels pretty nimble compared to those vehicles.

Thanks for looking up the info. You are a stand up guy. I do not launch my car hard all the time. Actually only a dozen or so times in those 32,000 miles.
I also had to beef up the drive train with a few new improved pieces to get reliable function at 627 AWHP. By the way someone mentioned that was crank power. That is wrong. My 627 AWHP came from a 4 wheel dyno mustang dyno. I know not all dynos are accurate and many give different readings. So factor in 15% error or so if you want.

I have not raced my car in a 1/4 mile drag strip either. But other 3000gt's at similar dynos numbers have run around 10.6 @ 140 range at my full weight.

Now this taurus SHO ecoboost is heavier so to get the same level of performance I would need about 750 AWHP from it. I doubt it will handle as well in the corners either. But this Taurus did interest me enough to log in here and check up on everything you guys know about the platform so far.

Also I am not interested in striping weight out of the car. I like the amenities.
My 3000gt VR4 still has A/C.
