Hey All,
I was curious has anyone here experimented with or installed neon undercarriage lights? I was thinking about putting a set of neon blue ones on my 89'. If anyone has, how difficult were they to install? Also, where did you purchase them from? I think it would really be a sweet addition to my SHO and it would definitely draw attention to it! :D

Thanks,

Most people I know who did this sort of silly neon addition ended up shattering their bulbs on a speed bump. Why do you want to draw attention to your car? Do you like being pulled over? Or have you just been playing too much NFS:Underground?

Your point about breaking the bulbs is valid, so that would be a consideration. But you're other issues I'm not in agreement with you on. First off, those types of lighting effects are legal in my state (PA). Also can you please explain to me why showing off your ride is a bad thing!

My cousin had a set of green neon lights on his Corvette. It looked pretty sweet with them glowing! BTW just a side note if you think drawing attention to your ride is a bad thing. Then you shouldn't perform any exterior modifications such as new rims, paint affects, zeon lights etc. because that would draw attention to your ride as well.

You will learn that most folks around here take great pride in the sleeper aspect of the SHO. If that is not your thing, don't worry about it. The SHO would be the same as any other car as far as installation of the neons are concerned. I would recommend mounting them in farther than most people end up doing it. It looks horrible when you can see the actual tube itself. Do what makes you happy!

Maybe it's a regional thing. I've been to some places in the US where there were quite a few cars that had undercarriage neon lighting and people seemed to appreciate it.

Although I question DDakRT's judgement wrt hockey teams, I would agree with his advice if you lived up here where cars with neon lighting aren't very well regarded. You're more likely to get laughed at than you are of getting any compliments.

Usually people around here upgrade their rims not for bling factor, but to fit a wider tire, or bigger brakes. That is not a cosmetic mod. Just wanted to point that out.

I'm on the side of the fence that thinks neon lights are not cool. I think they make a car look cheap and it makes me think the driver is an adolescent who is easily drawn to garish and over the top showmanship, and not concerned about performance or safety. A neon kit is about the equivalent of mounting a 3 stage spoiler on your SHO, in my opinion. But it is your car, do what you want. I would shake my head and laugh at a SHO with neons if I saw it.-

On that note, have you considered an LED Underbody kit, gives you the same look in a much more durable product, At least from what I've read in advertisements

Do the neons! I think they look good when they are done right. And as long as the neons flow..... Like there isn't a break in the light around the car... If you guys understand what i'm saying.. I plan on doing this. But after i get the motor and paint done. So that i have something to back up my looks! :D

Do it. Dare to be different, and I want to see what neons on a SHO look like. Some how I have this feeling they'd look better on a G2 or 3 but who knows.

I certainly agree that they would look better on a newer SHO, and not a first gen. Money would be better spent on a brake upgrade or a nice set of struts or tires.

Sorry, I can't answer your question. Go for it though. A lot of people that don't like them just hate the fact that other people look at the car with neons instead of their ride.

I think I’ll check into the companies that make them and put a kit on then. Quick question, aesthetically what color lights do you think would go best with a black SHO with grey interior?? :dribble: Also one guy mentioned LED lights, do they create the same affect? Has anyone here used them?

Thanks for the discussion here. It is always helpful to see a wide range of opinions before making a decision. :)

I like the neon look, it's great for working under the car at night. :thumb:

If you like it get it, end of story. ;)

Check out streetglow.com. I have the gold seriers neo blue. I love it and everyone that sees it loves it. I really dont care what anyone says anyway. Hey i figure people give me **** because i have a stripe on my car and people say, "It's a Taurus"!! But anyway all you have to do i run them and then they'll shut up. I'll post some pics of my car as soon as i get the front tube fixed so you can see a sho with neons underneath.
