Got stranded today. Battery is good, replaced the solenoid, starter was replaced 2 months ago, but the control for the solenoid is not working. I can jump the solenoid control with a screwdriver and the car fires right up.

The control wire looks like it goes through the bulkhead disconnect on the driver's side. Anyone have a wiring diagram or a link to one? Any ideas what to suspect as the problem?

Thanks for any help.

I don't have a wiring diagram, but it sounds like your ignition switch is bad. Have someone hold the key in the "start" position and check to see if you have 12v from the trigger wire.

Thanks AutoSHO. Forgot to pick up a test-light today. Just got the new Matco catalogue... NEW TOOLS!!! :D

I'll try your suggestion. Am I correct in saying that the control for the solenoid does not go into the PCM at all, right?

The starter circuit is simple.

Battery to the ignition switch to the clutch interlock switch to the starter relay.

I'd start here-----------------------------^^^^^

I thought about the clutch safety switch (clutch interlock switch), but when I try to start the car without depressing the clutch, I get the idiot light test, the tach registers, and the fuel pump primes. When I DO depress the clutch, I get the same thing, but I can hear the current draw. Perhaps there is just too much resistance through the switch?

I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks.
