Need Some Specs for Motor Rebuild...

I need the following specs/info:

1. What is the orientation of the piston rings supposed to be? Should the gaps be directly opposite sides?

2. what is the rod bearing up/down play supposed to be? Is .002 too much play?

3. Which way do the pistons go in? The big valve reliefs are for the intake, and the numbers stamped on the rods face out, correct?

4. is there any online page that has all of the clearances/specs for the 3.0?

I think you should buy a Helms... This will answer ALL of your questions and any that will arise later.

A chiltons will also have the specs for the rebuild. One thing to note; MAKE SURE YOU MARK ALL PISTIONS WITH THE ORIENTATION OF CYLINDERS AND MAIN CAPS WITH A SCRIBE OR PUNCH. The shop will have to measure and machine the rods if you mix them up and this is not cheap. Also I would suggest putting arp studs throughout;theyre cheap insurance. Have the pistons magnafluxed to determine cracks and get the heads resurfaced for trueness as well as the block deck. Rebuilding an engine is no joke and I am afraid if you do it half assed you will waste money and time. Get a book definitly.

I know what I am getting into here. I have done complete rebuilds before. I only have a Chiltons however, and it did not contain the info I posted about here.
Rods are marked from the factory as to which hole they go in, thats not a problem.
This is not a half-assed job and I am giving myself over a month just for putting it together. My goal is to have everything in and tuned for the convention.
So where can I get a Helms?

How exactly is anyone to know that you rebuilt an engine before? From
your post? The same post that asks for ENGINE SPECS? I was not knocking
your abilities but saying that if you dont get things right you could
have a mess, and quite frankly your post connotated you not knowing what
what you were "getting into". I was not calling your charecter "half
assed" or anything of the such and I apoligize if I was misunderstood

N/P. I am 99% sure of how it goes together, but that 1% would cause a big problem if I was wrong. I did not have the necessary literarture to get the specs I asked for above, so I posted here. Simple as that. Enough said. Does anyone know where to buy a Helms?

I got mine on ebay but you can buy them new from: http://www.helminc.com/ . I acutally have a specifications manual at home that has everything in a nice little chart. I can scan it for you tonight if you want.
