need some quick help

okay....for some reason, the fan in my 95 mtx ain't working. I can spin it by hand...barely. It's not the usual hesitant resistance you normally get from an electric motor, but more like trying to spin a front tire in the air while the car's in gear...just steady, unyielding resistance. I'm assuming my fan motor's shot. First off, is there any other FoMoCo vehicle that shares the same fan? Will an ATX fan work on an MTX radiator? need help fast, cuz I'm tired of starting to overheat at stoplights.

Have you thought about just hard wiring a Fan Switch in so you can just turn it On/Off manually? I have that done and it works well. Not sure about the ATX and MTX being compatible but I don't see why not?

hot wire the fan...see if it kicks. If not...then you don't need to assume the motor is shot...you can KNOW it.

Since the thang aint werkin' , pull it and show it to a guy at the junk yard. Have em' do a little matchy matchy..

RockAuto sells just the fan motors. They're pretty cheap. I'd have to assume the fan off a regular taurus would be close enough, if not identical...

I'd rather not hard wire a switch, since I can be somewhat absent minded at times and forget to turn it on, then get ****** when my car starts overheating. I guess I could just swap the motor...just figured I might save some cash by picking up a junkyard fan.

You don't need to install a switch or do any other wiring to test the fan, just initiate the EEC self-test and one of the first things it does is cycle the fan on and then off. If it's noisy or doesn't turn at full speed then you know you've got a motor issue. If it doesn't run at all it could be a bad fuse but based on the difficulty turning it by hand replacing the fuse probably won't correct it and will just result in blowing the fuse again or worse catching fire.

As mentioned replacement motors are available for around $50 or so IIRC. A motor from a single-fan SLO can probably be made to work also, but I've never tried.

If anyone can pull off the sinister laugh while driving up the road in a flaming SHO, it's you... It would be yet another tasty bit cementing you in SHO history along with the 36 different sig lines you've unknowingly created for various members...

If I recall, the A/C circuit turns the fan on as soon as it starts. This won't test the temp sending unit that runs the fan as it is bypassed when the A/C starts but this should confirm the motor issue.
