When I am driving every once in a while my RPM gauge revs up to 4000 rpm and stays there for a minute or two then comes back down to normal. My engine also revs at 4000 rpm when it does this, I can hear it from inside my car. This only happens sometimes when I drive, usually at speeds over 70 mph. SOme days it is totally fine, but others it acts up all the time. It feels like the car is pulling real hard when it jumps up RPMs. I have no idea what is causing this problem, is it some sort of clog. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you. This is a 94 SHO ATX with 80,000 miles.

Need some info on your sho, year, mtx/atx, mileage, 60k tune up done? Im gonna assume its a mtx? Does it do it when your in netreul? You say the engine revs with it? I would check you trottle cables and gas pedal and make sure nothing is interfering with their motion. It could be your cruise control. Do you leave it on when you shift? Thatll rev your engine by it self. My guess is cruise control. You can prolly take out the fuse for it to shut it off.

FOR SHO:

Cruise control is disabled when shifting in a MTX. Or at least it "should" be. There a cruise control disabling switch on the clutch pedal that deactivates cruise control when the clutch pedal is depressed. If you are having this problem with cruise control on, and while shifting, I'd start looking into that switch. But you also stated that this will occur for a minute or two, so I'm guessing you don't have CC on while this is happening. Best bet is to run your codes and report back.

Sounds like a ATX slipping...does it pull hard when the tranny kicks back in, like a violent ****(assuming its an ATX)

so quick question on the whole slipping thing. when the gear slips it should be accompanied by higher revs right? will it feel like a misfire sometimes or are they totally different?

this a 94 SHO ATX with 80,000 miles. Has not had the 60K tune up yet. It feels like the car pulls real hard when it jumps RPMs then all of a sudden jumps back to normal. But sometimes the RPMs juts stay at one level for a minute or two, then it comes back to normal when I slow down. It jerks back and forth when it trys to come back down to a normal level. Could it be the tranny.
