I’ve had catless downpipes since 2017. Still going strong
No offense but, I would dare to say that you get a little bit different treatment from tuners. I would say A) you are well known (not a possible setup by the EPA to bust a tuner) and B) a "celebrity", by being the fastest and one of the most developed in this platform, people are going to be eager to be associated with you. Whereas, a newcomer to the platform is possibly a bust, a loud mouth source, etc. Tuners are going to be more hesitant to shut off Emissions Checks. In addition, you are looking for every last little bit of power. A "kid" modding his first car with decent money is going to be better served with keeping his tuner options open.

I think a lot of it is finding the tuner willing to risk it for you. Smaller tuners without much exposure can probably get away with it, but with our R&D Access we have to submit a justification form if we try to turn off the rear O2s or EGR, and if SCT doesn't agree with our justification they just disable the account. It's how some of the really marketed companies got canned from doing SCT. No warnings, if the car a tag it has to comply with federal law.

Our stance is pretty black and white, doesn't matter who you are. We have 1600hp cars still running cats or dealing with the codes, we don't turn them off. If you find a tuner willing to disable them for you, don't advertise it.

Back in the day before it was harder to be caught, we welded the heat shields of the cats onto the straight pipes of my wife's 04 GT so it at least looked the part. The locals knew inspection wise but it looked the part so, like above, don't advertise ;) Now, it has cats. Sounds waaaaay better too.
I'd say about the only difference you're getting nowadays is sound unless your full drag race.

Way back in the day when Oklahoma had inspections my step dad bought a set of cats off a truck, hollowed them out, and tack welded them over the cat less legs on his 73 Corvette to pass visual.

Oklahoma was ass backwards for a while. Stock exhaust was exempt but modified exhaust you had to add them.

We haven't had state inspections since 2002 IIRC though

Yea my 70 caddy had cats when i got it. Dont know if they were added later but it was rust matching. Been open headers for 10 years.
My 15 sho been catless since 2018
90 sho been catless since last year. Its too loud though compared to the other cars
