i asked jost texiera a few weeks ago the same question and this is what he emailed me with. this is word for word out of my e mail. here ya go.
"Theoretically, you can replace only the springs and struts, but there are lots of other parts that people replace, either because Ford recommends that they only be used once (the suspension fasteners), or because they are often worn out, or can only be replaced when the struts are apart. The latter are the mounts and bearings.
Front:
V6 Lower Control Arm/Ball Joint, right F4DZ-3078-B
V6 Lower Control Arm/Ball Joint, left F4DZ-3079-B
If you replace the ball joints, then people often replace:

V6 Lower Control Arm Pivot Bolts (2) N803-990-S160

Continuing on with strut parts ..
V6 Front Strut install kit (1 each of strut nut, upper and lower cupped washer, strut pinch bolt) AD-263 (2) E8DZ-18198-AA
(Check first for what is included with your struts - some struts include these parts)

If you want new nuts on the top of the strut tower (if you don't have the caps)
