need opinion!!!!

I am getting a water pump put in for $350 total parts and labor. This seems a little high for just a water pump.. Is it??

Also I've had my car 3 1/2 years, and have never had my timing belt changed. The mechanic says I should replace the timing belt since it will be accessable from when he does the water pump. Should I replace it or leav it alone and save the money until it goes. Oh yeah and I am soo hurtin' for cash too$$$ Any opinions would be helpful. thank you

Going down that road, read my topic (harmonic balancer, crank shaft, bolt ) and I would say that if your getting it replaced to that price, go for it. Oh yea, have all the belts changed while they are doing the work. It will be well worth it.
The water pump it the easy part it is taking all the other stuff off to get it out that is a pain. Good luck. drgraham

Motorcraft pump runs close to $200, a remanned one runs about $50. The rest is labor. Find out what he's planning on installing.

The Gates T248 belt is only $35 from RockAuto.com and usually available for about $55 through local auto parts stores. Since it is supposed to be replaced at 60,000 mile intervals, I suspect you are overdue. The belt should be removed to replace the water pump anyway since it is quite challenging to remove the pump without getting coolant on the belt which is not recommended.

And, since no one has mentioned it.... you should probably change the CPS too. If your water pump has been leaking, it could short out the sensor(located underneath the waterpump).

Have you contacted Fred Hurder(local SHO mechanic) or Erik T( SHO91MTX)?

Maybe they could assist you, without ripping you a new a-hole

I actually had the sensor replaced not too long ago so I think I'll be alright. Good advise though because I had the biggest hissyfit when my sensor was junk and everytime I went to take it in, it would always start up and never stall on him(just my luck shrug ). At least if it does break I'll know what it is from now on.

Ohh yeah and Scott I am at just about 60k on my engine so I am definetly gonna do the timing belt. thank you guys for the comments. Wouldn't know what to do with my SHO if it werent for this Website. thumbs_u

You can do it yourself with a very basic set of hand tools in one afternoon.Is it at all possible for you to do it yourself?The directions on shotimes are very accurate.

Thats the thing, I build houses for a living so I have the "know how", it's just the time and effort. Plus it would be better if I had somewhere to work on it. Come this spring I will do it myself whether I like it or not. not enough $$$. Thanks jthomas for the encouragment. thumbs_u
