i just bought that 155 l/hr fuel pump and was planning onstickign it in sometime soon. well mine crapped out on the freeway so i kind of have to do it this week now. the thing is, i didn't know that this pump would not be an exact fit, and that somethign needed to be cut. i read the instructions on shotimes, and am still not sure exactly what to do. i have the tank dropped and the pump out, but still need to be sure what i am doing. thanks.

If you look at the picture you will notice the new pump attached to the sending unit by a small black hose. That line may need to be trimmed a bit since the replacement pump is a bit longer than the replacement. Just trim the metal line and hook it up. Look at the picture again. You will see the return line from the sending unit has a red/orange rubber valve at the end. You may want to replace that also since it will deteriorate over time.

I have found that rather than cutting the metal tube and removing it's ******, that I can just cut an appropriate sized piece of flexible tubing and the pump fits just fine. I've done this on 3 seperate occasions. Has anyone else tried this method?

As long as the length is the same, it sounds preferable as long as there is enough hose to get the clamps on nice and tight.

I'm using the 155 and all I had to do was trim the rubber hose a bit at each end, and the rest fit perfect. The biggest PIA is just getting the unit back in the tank properly. Make sure your screen at the bottom of the pump is on there good, so it does not fall off in the tank.

The writeup looks good. Thanks! I'm thumbs_u going to need to replace my fuel pump one of these days, probably sooner rather than later because I think it's on its way out. I'd rather cut a door than drop the tank even though I probably wouldn't have any problems with the strap bolts.

yeah that drop door thing woulda been sweet....well we dropped the tank to do it. the only good thing about dropping the tank is that it got my lazy ass up and actually doing some work for once.

Hehe, "sooner rather than later" came really soon! I'm finally getting some codes out of my fuel pump and some really bad behavior. Time to toss that noisy POS. I've been waiting for that fuel pump to fail since the car had about 60,000 miles on it. Gee, how many times can we say that we're actually glad a critical component failed on our cars?

Does anybody know if the measurements would be the same for my '89 as they were for Crazy's 95 MTX?

And how much vapor have you guys smelled above the fuel tank before removing the pump. There's a gasket between the pump and tank that should keep those fumes at bay, right? I want to just use my dremel with a cutoff wheel. I guess I can always just flood the whole area with CO2 while I'm cutting. That should take care of any ignition risk. My 20# CO2 tank is almost full anyways so why not?

Rick I think they're the same floorpan so it 'should' be the same. Ask SHO91MTX I think he did one on his GenI and should know.

As for the vapor I would use some caulk and seal it up. Easy enough to remove if you ever have to go back in. Maybe treat the area to prevent exposed metal to rust also.
