Well, they'll physically fit on the wheel just fine. But, you will encounter poorer acceleration (taller than stock tires make the car accelerate slower) and you might end up with some rubbing because of the height of the tires.

Just as an FYI, on www.tirerack.com they have the Sumitomo SRIXON4 for $66@ and the Kumho Ecsta HP4 716 for $68@ in the stock 225/55/16 size.

I think if you checked some more sources you'll find more options in that price range.

Not to steal the thread but...

Is the Sumitomo SRIXON4 a good tire. I haven't heard of them but I am very open to new options.

btw...I'm in the tire market as well.

Yeah, they have good ratings, but are a bit too pricey. (for me at least)

Sorry 'bout that. I get off track when it comes to stuff like that sometimes... I'll do better with age...

Also, I didn't pay attention that I was on the rong side of the fence here. I thought I was still in Gen II. oopsie!

"Go for the Ecstas"

A short warning, but the Kumho's, which I have had, are pretty well known for very poor handling characteristics when the weather is cooler, and I would not recommend them.

Yes the Kuhmo Ecstas are not intended for use below 40F. If you don't intend to race the car then I like the Nitto 450 ETs.

I ran some cheap 60 profile tires a while back with no problems. You can do it but the performance will suffer some.

hey i was just wondering what the difference will be if i go for a 225/50/16 tire over a 225/55/16. I bought my sho used and it came with the 225/50 on it already. Just looking for some input

also im looking at the Continental ContiExtremeContact as a good all year tire (i live in michigan and go to school in indiana so i get some snow up my way) and i cant afford to buy two sets of tires for different seasons.
Thanks for any info sent my way

Really there is nothing wrong with running 50 series. You will have slightly better acceleration (not noticable) and your speedo will be slightly off, nothing to be worried about. You will also have slightly less life of the tires as they will rotate a few more times per mile than the taller 55 series.

I'm running 225/55-16 Comp T/A G-Force KDW's on my GEN 1. Love them! I wanted the 50 series, but since I tow quite a bit, the load rating was the factor. BTW, the 50 series would have corrected my speedometer. Oh, and before I swapped out my engine, I used to launch in the wet at 3K RPM with no wheelspin.

Previously I had Comp T/A VR4's and got 45K miles each out of two sets of them. Great tires except in the Northeast snows!

I've got Yokohama ES100's on mine (They came with the car, and were almost brand new. Sweet :)), and I think they're awesome. I'll probably go for Yokohama's again on my next set.

Right now I have Toyo Proxes TPT's and I am very happy with them. They get very audible when pushing them to thier limits letting you know before they break loose. No guessing with the limits of them. Right now they are down to the wear bars and I am 99% sure I will go with the new Toyo Proxes 4 tire. Awesome tire from what I have seen. They are replacing the FZ-4 high performance tire.
