Ok I need to re-check my timing marks. I got the pulley off with no probelem and now I cant get it back on to save my life! I really need some advice from you experts on what to do.

There is nothing like sitting in the wet sludge that is your garage floor while trying to force the crank pulley back on. Heh I even cut my finger pretty good to :)

Thanks again guys...I did a search and could not find what I was looking for. Also I have not seen this coverd in any of the guides. Also I thought it would just slide back on LOL.

I can not even get the thing on far enough to thread the bolt back in there to push it on...it is very frustrating. But I have been messin with cars long enough to know when to quit for the night.

Thanks Once Again,
Adam S.

P.S I orderd the gates belt and I am sending back the one without the marks! :) :) :)

This is why August is the preferred month for 60K work hehe.

Try cleaning the rust off of your crank and your pulley. Then coat the inside of the pulley with a thin layer of grease and see if it slides on. Personally, I didn't have any rust on mine, I just put a bit of grease and it went right on with no problems.

Ok I just had a thought...The car ran great before I took everything apart to replace a bad waterpump and while i was at it install a new tbelt and cps. Can I assume that everything will be ok and just line up the marks on the cams with the marks behind the cams and replace the belt?

HOWEVER I guess I will still need to know how to get the crank pulley back on so I can drive the car again LOL.

If you need a little extra help get a small piece of 2x4 across the pulley and give it a few taps. It'll go. Make sure to torque the crank bolt to spec and threadlock it.

The timing belt pulley or the crank damper? Same for both. Clean the rust and any burrs off the crankshaft and inside of the pulley and dampern using sandpaper and solvent and then apply a thin coating of grease to prevent future rust. Keep the pulley or damper warm. Put a handful of ice cubes in a ziploc bag and wrap it around the crankshaft for a few minutes. Make sure the keyway is fully inserted into the slot in the crankshaft first. Make sure that you are lining up the slot in the pulley and damper with the keyway on the crankshaft.

You definitely need the white marks on the timing belt to gaurantee that you are installing the belt with the crank and camshafts in the correct orientation. Don't do this much work and come up short. You don't want to open it back up to get the belt right.

If you tap on the key that is the slot on the crank the pulley should fit. I tapped on mine with a piece of wood and a hammer. After this it wasn't bad removing and installing the crank sprocket and crank pulley.
