I got deeper into dismantling the SHOshop 90 today and when I removed the rear sway bar the bushings fell out and went clunk. What I found was a set of hard bushing machined out of UHMW.

This car was absolutely one of the best handling cars I had ever driven and this I am thinking this had to help.

My question is, are these custom machined or is there a supplier for them?

What are the advantages to having these over rubber or the red or blue bushings? Disadvantages?

Thanks. ~Brett

I don't think I have ever seen those before.... Very odd. One thing is for sure though, that bar had little to no deflection. :oogle:

Those are Delrin, used to be made by a guy in Florida. If I think real hard, I could come up with his name and his company name - Craig something-or-other (maybe Craig Vogley???), and his company was associated with what became Carbotech, the brake pad people. As far as I know, no one is making Delrin anti-roll bar bushings for the SHO anymore.

Memory is coming back now, I have those on my '89, Craig made a custom set for me for my fat 29mm rear bar. They were CNC machined, so changing the I.D. bore was just a program change. They really do quicken the response of the ARB's. No real downsides to speak of, tho the front units wore pretty quickly because the bar starts to bend where it exits the bushings.

Stiffer ASB bushings have the effect of keeping the bar fully in torsion; there is very little energy lost to bending the bar.

Didn't SHONut sell these for a very short while when Josh was first starting out? I know Josh was one of the first Carbotech dealers.
